How To Work Out Fuel Consumption?

Tue Feb 26, 2013 6:09 pm

For my University project, we have been tasked with converting a BAe 146-200 to an ASW aircraft for BAe Systems Prestwick. I have been assigned with Flight Operations, so I have to determine the range and endurance for the aircraft. One issue that has hindered my progress over the past week is the lack of information on fuel consumption. I have only found an TSFC for the aircraft at a cruise altitude of FL250 at M 0.7 but have no other information whatsoever. BAe have provided us with some information, but no performance manuals, which would have made things easier. If I could upload the information I was provided then I would, but I cant find the option to upload PDFs.

There is a very interesting site in which you'll find all the perf data you'd require at the Eurocontrol BADA (Base of aircraft data ) program.
As a university student you qualify for a free use of this database and it is very thorough on performance.
The graphs for each airplane are given at basically any altitude you' d require (not sure about low level loitering numbers but you should be able to derive your own mode )l.

Look up that site : BADA is here

Note, you have to submit and accept all the conditions, so read the blurb well.
(The data are used for the SESAR European sky project, so the seriousness of the data is guaranteed )

Have fun.

BTW, if you found a tec flight plan, the regulatory holding fuel is to be taken at 1500 ft, therefore, at these speeds / Fuel flows at different weights, you would be very close to the figures you're looking for. It's just a matter of plotting sample data on a graph.746 operators wouldn't refuse yoiu that kind of data, especially for a university research.
I'll see if I could get hold of a flight plan but I can't promise it as it is outside our field of expertise.

I love it when people asking questions don't even bother to acknowledge they saw the answers...
These are this kind of times...

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you, my workload has been heavy so haven't had the time to get back to you. There is no need to act like that, I have a very busy life in Uni and I don't get much time to myself. Whilst I am extremely grateful for your work, the last post was totally unnecessary.
