I have a unique situation I'm trying to find a solution for. I am new to the industry completely and a relative greenhorn. But I have a fun project I'm working on that requires some detective work and the right connections.
My employer has a customer who is having a Russian aircraft (small utility double prop) produced under a BASA bilateral agreement here in the states. We are replacing many of the parts for "better" American made parts that we prefer in the aircraft.
1 of which are the flap actuators. Here comes the hitch. We have the specs for the Russian actuator mechanism, but that gets you relatively nowhere when it comes to finding a supplier for an American flaps actuator. If you talk with sales, they dont know that information, and if you talk with someone who knows there parts and has a relative idea of specs they are difficult to get a hold of. On top of this, the current loads (rated and max) on the russian part are a good deal higher then many related american flaps actuators that go in similar sized aircraft (ie cessna, beechcraft). If I could sit down with a catalogue of all the flaps actuators made in the states it would be easy...lengthy, but easy. Too bad, its relatively impossible to get one of those...
Also, we really need a part that is already on a working American craft - makes it much easier with the FAA to get that part certified on our aircraft. (can be a helicopter linear actuator, as long as it fits the specs)
I have specs, I have pics.
I've made some great connections already in trying to find the part, but I figure it couldn't hurt to throw it out there to a community that may enjoy something such as this.
Anyone have an idea as to who would be keen to reach out to in regards to this?
Thanks for any suggestions,
