B787-8 OEW

Wed May 29, 2013 3:20 am

Hi all,

I have been reading that the MEW of the B787-8 has been constantly improving since the first aircraft. On the Boeing website the OEW is listed at 117.7T. Does anyone know whether this would be consistent with the OEW of the aircraft that from 9T overweight, or is consistent with an aircraft which I think is now closer to its weight target?

Thanks

The Delivered Empty Weight (a Boeing term for Basic Empty Weight) is typically around 252,00# The Operational Empty Weight of course varies with the airline configuration but should be somewhere around 259,800 with flight and cabin crew, Residual fluids including say 110 USG water and 1300# pax catering & carts. Hope that helps.

Boeing has provided a number of Operating Empty Weights for the 787-8 in the various ACAPs over the years, though the seat counts have differed, as well.

The current October 2012 117.7 ton OEW is for 242 seats ( 16 F | 44 J | 182 Y ).

In September 2007, OEW was given at 114.5 tons for a 224-seat configuration ( 12 F | 42 J | 170 Y ). That then dropped to 111.5 tons for the same 224-seat configuration in December 2011.

As such, I would expect the 117.7 ton OEW is for current builds.

Thanks for the response - any suggested ranges on what a heaviest spec would be for a 224-seat config? +3T?

Cheers

This is not a term that Boeing use in the General Characteristics section of their ACAP sheets.

Since the published OEW is based on 242-seat config. wouldn't a 224-seat config. be lighter? The weight per seat in Y is not very much, probably about 25kg.

Go to ahmthy.com where TK explains in detail what is included in the OEW and what is added to get to the DOW . They are probably fairly typical in this respect for most airlines except the premium carriers who probably load more catering.
