Hi-Lift Catering Vehicle 'SOP'

Hope someone is able to answer my question. I was at BNE earlier in the week and noticed EK435 B77W BNE-DXB was being catered from all 4 doors on the starboard side. I know with each aircraft type the procedure changes but from memory in SYD forward galleys are serviced on the starboard side whilst mid rear & aft galley from the port side. I've also noticed whilst in FRA a B744 forward, mid and aft galley was being catered from the starboard side whilst in Australia the aft is catered from the port side.

Isn't there a standard operating procedure?

There is not usually a specific door that must be used unless there is a safey concern, generally the door that is used corresponds to a location of a galley. Example our 747s usually cater from the R2 for the front and upper deck galleys, L3 for the middle galleys and either of the rear doors for the aft galley. On most narrow bodies catering is done at the R1 then over to the rear left or right door. On some gates the entire catering is done from the rear as the trucks cannot safely pass between the wings of neighboring aircraft. This is the least optimal way as no boarding can be done while the catering crew moves the carts up and down the aisle of the aircraft.

They use whatever door is most convenient in the JAL 767 pic the Cleaners truck on the Right rear door was there first so catering had to use the left

Not all aircraft carry their galleys and cart storage in the same place so trucks will use the closet door since they are on a clock to service the aircraft.

That is going to vary depending not only on type but how each airline fitted out its aircraft. There may be different cofigurations between different aircraft in the same carrier.
