Herpa Model Airports

Wed Sep 13, 2000 6:32 am

I was thinking about starting to collect Herpa Models and display them in the airport Herpa makes. Could someone please tell me a little general info about these. One specific question I have is do you have to build them, and if so, are they difficult to build. Also, can you change the airport design and expand it. And, are there any other 1/500 airports other than herpa. Any comments will be welcomed. Thanks

Herpa's airports are OK. They are a bit time consuming to put together because there are many small parts. You can expand and even create your own "designs" other than what is recommended on the Complete Airport set box. There is a guy that will design and build you a model airport (very expensive), but Herpa is the only Pre-fab manufacturer that I know of.

I have the herpa airport. It took me about 2 hours total to build. It isnt too hard. I recommend it.

Same here...I didn't have too much trouble and it didn't take too long. As Texairport said, you can expand it and create your own designs within the parameters of the product. I bought a base (tarmac) for it from someone in Toronto who makes them himself. It's a great way to display your collection.

I have a set of the Herpa Airport. But to date, I have yet to assemble it as I have no space to display it and my collection of 50 Herpa jets. Further more, I have no ideas whatsoever as to where can I get a "tarmac" in Singapore! The shop that I frequent told me someone here can design and build one but it will cost me a bomb and it can take as long as they like to build one.

I like the "airport" as I bought it without much hesitation. It is easy to construct and it is something like a snap-together model. All the above 3 replies are true and it is a worthy collection.

Hey

Herpa Airport are really expensive, I yet to have brought any Airport things for my Herpa 1:500 collection, But I intend to soon, I have only 17 models, But I have not been collecting long.

I only go for the new generations, But have 2 old generations, I might try to get rid of one day, Might see if I can swap them with a shop I buy mine from.

I'd reccomend to go with PiXelport, who produce a wide series of ground foils in 1:200, 1:400, and 1:500 scale, allowing you to construct whatever kind of airport you may so desire. The Herpa ground foils aren't all that realistic and there aren't really many ways to "customize" them to make an airport of your own design.

To see some photos of PiXelport foils being used with Herpa buildings, check out this topic.

Texairport,

There is a guy that will design and build you a model airport (very expensive)

Can you tell me how to get in touch with this guy? I may be thinking about getting a model airport built of my hometown terminal(JAX) and depending on his work and prices, he may be just worth it.

Thanks for your help.
