Airline Tycoon- Worth Buying?

Sat Oct 21, 2000 1:26 am

With Airline Tycoon being released in the United States tomorrow, can anyone who has played the demo/full version (over there in Germany) tell me if it's worth buying? Are the aircraft types real, or do they pull an Airport Tycoon and have you flying "Bowing 737s" and "Focker F28s" (at least it's not F*kker F28  )? How about cities? What kind of coverage is there, and are they real cities? How easy/hard is it? Any help is appreciated!

Here it´s Heiko from Germany!
Ich have Airline Tycoon Frist Class (updated)! By the normal Airline Tycoon there are a lot of Boeings! And IL62, TU154 Concorde and so on but with these old aircraft you can´t make money they need to much Cerosin! You can make routes, charter or last minutes but the best is routes!!! But there are not so much routes! Maybe 200-300 routes! And by First class you have more routes and more airplanes and you can deal with Freight! By us it costs 30 DM = 15$. Thats not so expensive! For Example by Concorde you cant buy this plane that plane need SO MUCH Cerosin it is impossible to make money! But some is Wrong it gaves a airplane which called Voyager! It flies 5000 Km/h! Thats unreal!
You can buy secondhand planes in the museum or brand new planes! But the secondhand planes you ca repair!!! We have the normal version and the First Class! I wood by them!
Do you have any questions? When yes then E-Mail me or we speak about it in this topic!

Best wishes

I played the English-language demo, and although I thought it was entertaining for a weekend, it ultimately isn't long on fun nor of much interest to aviation enthusiasts. I liked the interface with the airport terminal to wander about, getting chores done and watching customers check in and board (and the sound is quite good).

But there isn't much here about airplanes. The game is really a tongue-in-cheek comicbook-like world of airlines. The aircraft have the "right" names but you see very little of them (when they flash by the terminal windows) and they bear no resemblance to real aircraft. You spend most of your time clicking on personnel folders hiring and firing employees.

There are some good airline business issues that are very elegantly dealt with in the game. The problem of gates, pilot fatigue, and travel times is all handled in a scheduling screen. An aircraft at the airport uses your one available gate for one hour meaning you can't land anything else until they leave. Once destinations are chosen, a timeline box shows exactly how long the trip there and back will take. It is really a nice way of forcing you to set your scheduled and chartered flights in a organized manner that uses your resources wisely. Not having a gate available at the right time can throw off half a dozen flights.

There is also a problem (in the demo I played) of various sterotypes; armies of hip-swishing gays and boombox-toting blacks might not go over big with most Americans (I found it rather distasteful). Of course, perhaps they've tailored the new version a bit for the American market. Based on the demo, I wouldn't recommend buying the full game to any airliner enthusiast.

ive been playing the UK version i believe, its pretty cool so far. There arent too many U.S. citys, theres New York, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Denver, Vancouver and Los Angeles. You start out with 737-400 range of about 3900km, and 757-300 i dont remember its range.. over 5000km i believe, I bought a used L1011 from the museam for $5 million, it had a range of 7000km but used sooo much fuel I made barely any profit and resold it.

You have to run around the airport getting flights from travel agencys, you can schedule flights on your own but so far I make barely any money on those, alot of those flights I lose money.

so overall it would be hard to say If you would like it, it seems to me theres a very specific crowd that would like it. I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

And proplem with the Gates it´s very easy because you haven´t to make every flight from your homecity!!! I have 60 Airplanes and 3 are in my homecity Francfort! and the the other 57 are not station in Francfort

Actually, N1641, for Airbuses, Airport Tycoon uses "Flying Greyhound".

J/K!

It calls them "Skybus"

It is really a good game! I think it is easiest to start in LHR because there are so many routes to choose from! I've got some cheats and so it made the game not as difficult to play.

N1641, I think they gave the planes in the game the right names, but they don't look as the real planes. A B747, for example, looks as a Fokker (it's a little bit smaller), as I can remember. All planes are jets, but the small ones have the sound of props (as I can remember...). But the game is really funny. It's not for people who hope to get a game with detailed planes or airports (every airport looks the same). I think it's a funny game for a rainy sunday!

Something more to say, although the names of the planes are real, however, you would always see the plane turns out to be a 737 during take off or landing!

I haven't play the game yet, only the demo. But I looking forward to play the game as soon as I get it. But otherwise I wish that someone could do more realistic game about to start your own airline. That should be fun.

Airline Tycoon Features

Fri Nov 10, 2000 11:10 pm

Theres a features of airline tycoon:

1.Charter flights. There are charter flights, which are good, and which are bad, so you can get Order analyst for monthly wage, which tells you which charter flight you could get.

2.Cargo flights. You can transport big cargo with many flights (100 tons weight cargo with 3 flyes of 747, for example)

3.Routes. You can open you own routes. You must advertise them if you want to make them profitable.

4.Shares. You can buy-sell shares of yours and other airlines.

5.Planes. hmmmmmm.... 777 is bigger than 747 by seats here! These planes have low consumtion costs: Airbus A300, A310, Douglas MD-81, Boeing 777, Boeing 767. You can buy old planes (planes advisor will help here) or new. You can improve your planes by placing better seats, interior, comfort equipement, meal, whells, engines, cleaning crew, stewards, safety equpement cockpit.

6.Kerosene. You can buy some kerosene to your own tanks and use it when the price of fuel will be bigger.

7.Personell. You can hire advisors, pilots and flight attendants for different wages and talent.

8.Sabotage. For the money, you can told to mafia to do these things to competitor: Bacteria in the coffe, virus in laptop, bomb the office, provoke a strike, over-salt food, destroy on-board movie theater, destroy tire for delay, destroy engine when flying, crash enemy plane.

9.Workshop. You can told to workshopman t rapair you planes or maintaince that in 4 types (these people can repair you planes: Cleaning lady, young repairer Timmy, good repairer Carl or both engineers).

10. Branches. You can rent new offices in other cities and share your offices with other airline.
