What 3D Video Card For FS 98/2000

Sat Jan 27, 2001 2:54 am

I just got a Pentium III, 933 Mhz with 128 MB RAM and was going to install FS98 from my 233 MHz, 64 MB RAM machine. Which 3D video cards you guys recommend and how difficult is to install the cards yourself?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Arshad

I've got a PIII 800 mhz with 128 MB RAM and i've got FS2000 on it, i have recently installed a "VOODO" 3D FX card and it works a treat! amazing graphics! It was easy to install just find you graphic gard bus slot in the back inside of the computer either take out the one that's in their or put the new one in and make sure it clicks but don't push it too hard or you'll bust it! Then put the CD you get with it in to the CD rom and follow the on scree instructions about installing the driver and software. Should be as simple as that! also look for updated patches on the internet for the exact card you have as it will help with any little problems that the card has with FS. I hope this helps!
ps: get the best VOODO card you can for the money you whant to spend try fetting a 64MB card but a 32MB card is aslo very good!

I also recomend Voodoo card. I have been using a used Voodoo3 2000 PCI that i bought from ebay a year ago and havn't had a problem with it once. Game compatibily is excelent so you wont find yourself with older games that dont work. I highly suggest a V3 or a V5, they are in my oppinion the best out there.

Hi There

The others have hit on the right idea, my personal choice has always been the Voodoo or TnT cards, either of those are great cards. The other good one out there is the GeForce cards. There are quite a few models of each but you want to get something with at least 32Mb, 64 would be nice but doesnt really serve much purpose unless you have a 21" monitor.

Regards

Depends on personal tastes. People who have followed the voodoo series since voodoo 1 or 2 will definitely tell you the voodoo is better but in nowadays if I were you I would go for the Geforce 2. The newest Geforce cards used together with Nvidia's Detonator 3 drivers are unbeatable. TNT's are way outdated and Voodoo cards have been known to cause texture problems in FS.

For FS-2000, I recommend that you get CardExpert GeForce 256 64MEG DDR. Although it costs about $300, it's the best card that money can buy.

If you do not want to spend that much, you can find a decent GeForce MX board for about $100.

However, I recommend that you get more RAM for your PC. If you maximize dynamic scenery, FS2000 is very slow even on PIII 933.

First of all, what kind of 3D card do you have?
(For best result, you must have a GeForce 256 DDR 64meg is the best)

2nd, what type of monitor to do you have?
you will need a monito capable of displaying 1600X1200,
as well as .22-.25 pitch

3rd, have you upgrade to directx 8.0?
This can be downloaded using windows update.

4th. have you modified display setting in the flightsim 2000 to allow for maximum display?

(I forgot which menu it is under)
