Aero Mini Model Molds After Manufacturer Shut Down?

Tue Feb 20, 2001 4:42 pm

Does anyone have knowledge of what became of the molds used to construct Aero Mini models after the manufacturer ceased operating? Great models with retracting gear and rear stairs on DC9 and 727 models. Wonder if there would be a market for reproduction Aero Mini's? Currently I have the following:

Air Canada -747
BOAC V-10
Braniff 727-100 (blue)
Northwest Orient 707-320
Northwest Orient 727-100
Pan American 707-320
Pan Am 727-100
TWA DC-9 and Ozark DC-9

In the mid-1970s, Masudaya or Modern Toys, the Japanese company that made Aero Minis, issued illegal castings, that is models not ordered by the US Aero Mini company. In 1974, production was shifted to the USA. A father-and-son team purchased the company, renaming it AeroMini. Boeing 727s and 737, and some new 747s were produced in the US. They have been in production for a long time - I do not know if they still are.

Talk about pulling a thread from deep in the archives. It took over 12 years to get an answer and there's no telling how long this person has not been a member.
