Help To Find 1:144 Models

Mon Sep 24, 2001 12:16 am

Hi everybody!
I've recently started building airliner models (Up to now I had only built military). So I bought my first model VC-137 Airforce One (by Minicraft)at the local store but there is nothing else there. And when I will be finished with it I don't know where to buy them. I searched internet for 1:144 airliners but couldn't find them. If you know some very good manufactures and models can you tell me where to buy them.

And if you have any advises for the beginner please don't hesitate to give me them.

Thanks

P.S. I'm living in USA .....Tulsa, Oklahoma.

there are a host of hobby shops online, some of which carry all models, some of which speicalize in airliners.

http://modelairliners.com/ has a bunch.

some minicarft kits are great- md-80, dc-3
good- 737
ok- 757, b377
not so great- 707, dc-6, constelation

you really can't go wrong with revell germany's newer kits- A320, a321, 737-800, a340, a330, f100, bae 146. these are increadibly detailed well fitting kits. some of their older kits- a310, concorde, dc-10 are not nearly of the same quality, but still better than:

Airfix. classic british engineering and all of the headaches associated with it. their 727 and 747 are both real bears, while the 737 and dc-9 aren't too horrible.

if you have any specific questions please don't hesitate to e-mail me,

Whatever you do, buy a Revell...they pieces actually fit together (which is the idea, but some companies don't get that). If you don't want to order online, you could check your local phone book's yellow pages for model shops.

You can get great 1/144 kits on E-bay quite often - just do a search of Boeing 707, 727, 737, or any other airliner, and you'll see several kits for sale. I've gotten some great deals on E-bay. Also, in addition to AHS run by Russell Brown which one member already mentioned, there is Airliners America. Here is the URL: http://www.airlinersamerica.com/ The owner, Clinton Groves, has a great selection of kits and decals available, and kits are 20% off.

As far as brands, I've worked with Revell-Germany, Revell, Monogram, Minicraft, Hasegawa, Airfix, ANTK/Tupolev, VEB-Plastikartt and Glencoe, in various scales. The most accurate are Minicraft and Revell-Germany for 1/144, with the rare Otaki L1011 kit, which is highly sought after and very expensive, being on the par of Revell-Germany kits.

Good luck! This is a great hobby!
