1:400 Collectors, Dragon Wings, Gemini Or Herpa?

Sun Oct 14, 2001 11:49 pm

I'm a pretty new collector and would just like to ask for anyone's opinion on which of the three are better for the 1:400 series. personally like DW's and gemini's landing gear alot better, but herpa always feels more... correct? in terms of colour at least. and DW seems to be so detailed that it sometimes looks abit odd.

any opinions?

I would say DW is the best. Best detailed but not best in paint though.

get what you like. thats what i do. if they're all the same scale, then who cares who made the model.

I too like Dragon Wings...especially their DC-10/MD-11/L1011 line up. No 737-200's/757's form DW. I get those in Gemini...

I have heard that the details on Herpa 1:400 aren't that good compared to Gemini and Dragon Wings.

I work at a little shop at the Airport here in Calgary (where Westjet is based). I have to say the Dragon Wings are better detailed than Herpa. But they are a little more expensive.

Dragon-wings: Yeah they did just bring out the Westjet 737-200 line. Also soon they will be starting Westjet 737-700's!! I can't wait for those to come in.
Are you a Wesjet fan? Your profile says you're from the U.S. Alot of Americans haven't even heard of Westjet.

i dunno why, but i prefer herpa and gemini. gemini has very few asian airlines, which is a shame. and why doesn't anyone build airports in the 1:400 scale!!! argh!!

Gemini Jets were the best when they first came out. Dragon have really improved, plus they have a much better selection. I have many 1:500 Herpas, but none of the 400. Most of the Herpa 400 series is a copy of previous Dragon, and Gemini models.

I heard that from the distrubitor that sells them to buisiness's in Western Canada, I'm not sure if it's true, but I wouldn't doubt it too much.

BTW could you post a link to Dragon Wings website? I can't remember it, and I tried to find it on Yahoo and all I get are childrens books sites, and doll sites ?!?

Thanks,

Regards,

Kris

Carmy:

I work tommorow and I'll check with my distributor if anyone makes 1:400 airports. I think I remember seeing one in my herpa catalogue but I'm not positive. Check back tommorow as I'll post what I find in this thread.

Hey Carmy,

I checked my catalogues etc. at work, Herpa does make a complete set however it's in 1:500 scale. It's also very expensive.

Thanks for the second link Dragon-wings!!

Take care,

Thanks for the help Kris! It's a pity isn't it, that no one builds airports in the 1:400 range. I for one would love to have a little Changi Airport in my room, full of little SIA planes.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Nice link, Dragon-wings. But one of the best I've ever seen remains http://www.delftblue-daybreak.de. This guy has got one great airport, suprebly done photography as well. And to top it all off, argh.. he's got both SIA tropical Megatops in the 1:400 scale. I am SO jealous. hahaa.

I always prefer DW models which have very good selection of models but for excellent printing , i have to go for Geminijets .

Both models have their pros and cons but DW is currently leading the market because they are improving all the time

What about Jet-X? I hear they produce 1:400 airplanes as well. Does anyone have a Jet-X model?

I have one Jet-X model so far, the Eva Air Caro MD-11 (it's one of my favorite MD-11 models I have) it has the same details as the Dragon Wings models, the only differnce is that Jet-X models are limited in production #'s like the Eva Air Cargo I have is limited to 1,500 models

Well, my sister just got me a Gemini Jets Swissair Asia MD-11. Lovely plane, love the detail! However, would just like to ask anyone who stays in the US about the prices of Gemini Jets there. My sis bought the plane at US$29.95 and about US$32 after tax. Is that considered expensive? The Gemini website put the price of the Swissair Asia at US$27.95, so I'm wondering if she got ripped at the shop. And when I convert the price back to Singapore dollars, the model is actually cheaper in my local hobby shop.

That sounds about right, I'm in Canada, but I'm used to converting into US funds. I don't think she got ripped off as the difference between what she paid and what was listed on their website would have been easily surpassed in shipping costs had she ordered it online.

Kris
