FS2002 And My Computer.

Wed Nov 07, 2001 3:38 am

Ok, I do not have what would be considered a high performance system, but I want to run FS2002. I never was able to use FS2000. I have a 300 mhz Pentium with 64 mb of ram and a junk graphics card. I want to buy a good graphics card in the $200 and below range and more ram if I need it. What would you all recommend I do in order to run FS2002 very smoothly with great graphics. I really don't know much about this type of thing so I would appreciate some help.

You should be careful when buying a graphics card. If your computer is only a 300Mhz, then you can't just go out, and buy the best one you can find. It most likley won't work on your computer.
First of all, look for one that is AGP- this only applies of course, if your computer has an AGP slot. Check this before you buy.
Just make sure you check the system requirements of the card before you buy it, and remember that some places don't do returns on computer equip. once it has been opened.

First thing I would do is upgrade the 300mhz processor with the fastest chip available in the same format, that will usually be around 550mhz. Next for the video card, I recomend a Voodoo3. The drivers are compatible with every game out there and it will complement the 500mhz or slower CPU nicely. Dont waste your money on a new card because it will give you the same frame rates as a Voodoo3 since a video card can only work as fast as the cpu can feed it information. Lastly, pick yourself up 128mb or more RAM. It is dirt cheap, I got a 128mb of PC133 ram for $19.99 CDN at furture shop. Then I would consider buying FS2002. A 300mhz with only 64mb and crappy video will run it but im asuming it would be more of a slideshow then anything with terrible slowdowns.

Ohh regarding PCI vs. AGP, AGP isin't really faster then PCI, at least on slower systems. Check your motherboard. If you see a brown slot above the white ones then you can buy and AGP card. If all you see are white ones then you must buy a PCI card.
