How To Open The .CFG File?

Tue Feb 26, 2002 2:26 am

I have replacement textures but can only replace the defualt 3. I remember reading on here that you can get more if you open the .cfg file. So can anyone tell me where is this file is and what code to I paste?

Thanks a lot

I had some trouble with this too.
Anyway, open up notepad and then just find your aircraft cfg. file.
It's really easy when you get to know it a bit better.
Hopefully someone else will reply and give you a little more info on this.

Well I tried to change the ATC name and I will see if that works thanks, but if anyone could help me with adding more then just 3 textures that would be great!

you beat me to it DC-10!

Dash8,
you can have more than the 3 different textures if you want, you'll just have to create another texture called texture.4 or any other word/number as long as the word texture is there, for example:

[fltsim.3]
title=Boeing 737-400 Paint3
sim=boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=4
checklists=
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=NC-FRYL
atc_airline=Air Canada
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=OrAir Canada
description=One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service.

as you can see above, the line texture has a number 4 next to it, it refers to my texture folder with the Air Canada textures in it, which is called texture.4

Hope this helps

Tue Feb 26, 2002 6:23 am

I have gotten it to say Delta Airlines but I can't get it to say Westjet here is what I have maybe someone can see what I did wrong

[fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-400
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=Westjet
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=Westjet
description=One etc,etc

[fltsim.2]
title=Boeing 737-400 Paint2
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=2
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=Delta
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=Delta Airlines
description=One etc,etc

So what did I do wrong?

it's in your FS2002 aircraft folder, I'm not sure it's gonna work but it might.

You can also download a list with over 300 airlines from flightsim.com

Yea I put it in already but it didn't work oh well I have another question I can't get my southwest 737 to appear

[fltsim.3]
title=Boeing 737-400
sim=Boeing 737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=3
kb_checklist=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=Southwest
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=Southwest Airlines
description=One etc, etc

Now when I put paint 3 it showed on the list in the aircraft directory but when I clicked on it-it said that paint 3 is not a paint or something like that. Where do I go to add paints?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions I am not to computer literate

In the example below, all the bold entries must be unique for each variation and the [fltsim.X] must follow on consecutively 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.

I find that the title needs a unique name too, hence the Paint1, Paint2 etc.

Regards,
Craig.

Yes but do you know what I did wrong on the one above, I downloaded an Air Canada one which had it layed out already and it works great! I get the name to apear on the list but when I click to fly it-it says that I am using the wrong paint or something so is there anywhere to add a paint i.e. paint5 or something?

When you add a line TEXTURE=X then there must be a corresponding folder called TEXTURE.X which contains ALL the textures for the aircraft.
Sometimes downloaded replacement textures only include the bitmap for the fuselage, and not all the detail ones like wheels etc.
Try copying an existing texture folder and renaming it to the appropriate number. This should then work, except it will be the old texture.
Then copy the new texture file(s) to that new folder, overwriting what is there already.
If you are still having problems, send me an email on craig.hendley@btinternet.com as I can explain better if I can email a screenshot as an example.
Regards,
Craig.
