FS2002 Without Joystick?

Fri Mar 01, 2002 9:04 pm

Hi all I am a new user to this forum this is my first post.

I have been playing FS2002 intensively since its release. Unfortunately my HP does not have a joystick port and I was using the keyboard all this time. Am I the only one? I figure the joystick must be better except for calibrating issues. So does the joystick significantly improve the "experience"?  Smile

Joystick or yoke and rudder pedals greatly improve things.
There are people using the keyboard but most don't do it for long. They either get a stick or they quit in frustration.

You can nowadays get very nice USB joysticks for if your computer has none.

Welcome to the forum. I have been using FS2002 for about three months. I have only ever used the keyboard, and now that I am used to it and have no problems 'flying' that way, I am in no hurry to get a joystick, but I guess I will eventually. Enjoy A.net! Big thumbs up

Playing FS2002 without a joystick is like going to the nicest reataurant in town and only getting to eat a peanut butter & jelly sandwich!

I played one year with the keyboard, 3 years with a joystick and this year at xmas I moved on to a yoke!

I would recomment a yoke before joystick but a joystick before keyboard!

thanks, I figured the keyboard sucked compared to the joystick  Smile I heard a friend of mine has a joystick port cable that I can plug directly on the motherboard (soundcard embedded in motherboard). Next time I see him I'll discuss this with him.

I agree with Dash8King, I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro (Joystick) and a CH Pro Pilot Yoke and there is no comparison! The yoke is so effective on short final especially and is much more natural for simming, almost supplying the "connected" feeling to the plane like airliner pilots talk about.

If I recall correctly it was around $50 at the time. It has a built-in throttle and buttons for gear and flaps and other functions of Flight Sim.

I began flying FS98 with the keyboard about 5 years ago and I tried a joystick and absoultely hated it. I had less control over the plane then ever before and it always crashed. So, it's been 5 years now and I rather like flying with the keyboard, and I have no plans on getting a joystick or a yoke.

A yoke is much better then the joystick, I tried flying with the joystick after a month of having my yoke and couldn't believe how much difference there is. I had a precision pro joystick.

I'm using Joyistick Force Feedback 2 and I absolutely love it!!!!
If you fly with regular joystick and keyboard you cant feel the weather. Now I'm spending more and more time with my Force Feeback 2!
