Not A Vs. B, It Is H Vs. DW, Who Do You Collect?

Fri May 17, 2002 3:38 am

Model Collecting,

Just getting into this so I am not sure who is better here, Herpa, Dragon-Wings, and now Gemini in the 1/400 scale? Any and all info is appreciated, thanks.

If you plan to collect 1/400 scale, Dragon Wings and Gemini are definitely the way to go. With the exception of their recent 747-400 releases, Herpa's 1/400 scale models are of decidedly lesser quality. Some of the older Dragon Wings releases are so-so in presenting an authentic look of the real thing in miniature while Gemini Jets, without exception are, as they claim, "as real as it gets." However, I prefer the more recent Dragon Wings models over Gemini Jets by a slight margin when the same aircraft/airline/livery subject is available from both; I have a roughly equal number of models from both manufacturers in my 1/400 collection.

I bought a Gemini Wings Emirates 773 the other day, and the quality is absolutely stunning! The only thing that isn't that detailed is the wing. I am also getting into this hobby with this model.

Of all of the manufacturers, which have the stands included, and are there any where you can show them with wheels up and wheels down?

Thanks,

James

James, To answer your question regarding stands, Dragon includes stands with all their models and give the option of removing the wheels or keeping them on. Gemini sells stands separately but their wheels don't come off.
Regarding who is the best manufacture, I had a poll last month on my website and 55% said they liked Dragon Wings models over Gemini, Herpa and Aeroclassics.

P.S If you want more answers to your model questions, I suggest you try asking them on the D.A.C forum. It's website is http://www.diecastaircraft.com
I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)

I collect both DW and GJ. Both are good. See the model for yourself and decide which is the one to your liking. About the DW, once the wheels are removed and you put the covers on, it is not possible to take them out again.

Herpa New Generation models are sweet....StarJets makes very nice 1:500s too.

Personally, I collect Herpa's....the non-new generation models have not-to-scale gears but the models are still very nice. For now I only have Herpa's (6 of them) but I might buy some StarJets and other brand, I haven't checked them a lot but I will in the future.

Thank guys.

I get my first model hopefully today or tomorrow, I purchased a CO B777 (dragon wings), and I am bidding on several Gemini Jets and other Dragon Wings to check em out.

Thank you for the site information.

I collect Herpa Wings 1/500.

The quality is good, but not to compare with miniatures of Dragon and Gemini at 1/400.

Difference is that I can buy 4 Herpa's for 2 Gemini's.
