VOR Or IFR

Fri May 17, 2002 10:37 am

I am flying on FS02 Mexico city Miami with me the pilot and my friend the Co Pilot. I am wondering if I should do IFR and VOR. Which one is easier and which one is cooler and more realistic. Thanks

I assume you mean "VFR or IFR." If so, IFR is by far the most realistic (on FS2002 anyway), and in my opinion, the most fun. In real life, IFR cross countries are a lot of fun, whereas VFR cross countries are kind of boring. Then again, a lot of people think I'm weird for feeling that way.

VOR is more fun. You got to be at the computer chnaging frequencies all the time. I prefer IFR. I go for more realistic 'things'. I just prefer waypoints.

Cosync,

On Flight Simulator 2002, IFR is much more realistic that VFR, meaning the way that you operate in the system (talking to controllers, etc.) is much more representative of reality when flying under IFR than under VFR--and I say this as someone who holds a real-life instrument rating.

I've found the IFR system (clearances, controllers, approaches) on FS 2002 to be a fairly accurate representation of the real thing, although somewhat simplified. If you are going for realism on FS 2002, IFR is the only method that is even remotely close.

VFR depends some on dead reckoning and pilotage (flying according to landmarks) I can recognize some lakes and rivers in virtual upstate New York, but even using a VFR sectional of this area, I can't pick up some of the smaller airports without the help of the GPS.

Thanks for all the tips. I tryed out IFR yesturday and today and it is so much cooler and more realistic. Now if can fly out off MIA to other places. I say that because i use to only be able to fly to MIA do to i know how to get around florida without GPS.

IFR stands for I follow Rivers.

In more developed places of the world it can also mean

I follow Rails.
I follow Roads.

Either way, I haven't found FS2002 that great for that mode of flying  Laugh out loud
