I just use visual allignment, no instruments. I've don'e only like 6 Instrument landings before, but I'm pretty good at it. When it's under like 3 miles visibility and I am on a VFR flight plan I usually use my GPS to vector myself into the ILS path, and then once the runway becomes even slightly visible I go by visual only.
By the way- Have any of you tried a visual approach into Anchorage Intl at night? It's HARD! I did it in a Beech 350 yesterday, I kept having to look out all the windows to make sure I had enough altitude. At one point I was about 50 yards from the runway threshold and made it just under tree level, I didn't realize how low I had been until I looked out the left window on the instant replay and saw the trees HIGHER than my wing. Other than that I made a pretty beautiful landing if I do say so myself though.
