Create Your Own Airline

Fri Jun 14, 2002 12:23 pm

I know this has been done soooo.. many times but it is such a good form and I just came up with an amazing idea for an airline so here we go.

Canadi>n Intercontinental Airlines

Short History:

Founded on June 20, 2002 Canadian Intercontinental has expanded rapidly with hubs at Vancouver, Montreal Quebec City, and St John’s. Its headquarters is located at Calgary. With its fleet of now 144 mainline aircraft it is making large profit gains everywhere and has taken over two smaller airlines (Jetsgo and Canjet). Both of these airlines were taken over in spring 2003 when Air Canada collapsed. Today it is Canada’s largest airline and part of the Sky Team alliance. The second largest carrier Westjet is also profitable and it now operates 84 planes.

My own airline ideas keep changing, so here is mine in the newest form:

Brightstar Airways:

A charter airline based out of ATL. Brightstar provides charter services for tour operators, sports teams, businesses, and for most charter needs. We also provide ACMI charters for airlines needing additional capacity due to seasonal demands and other factors.

Fleet:
5 Boeing 717 (2 @ 123 pax 2 @ 84 pax sport/VIP setup, 1 @ 106 pax layout)
3 Boeing MD-90-55 (2@ 153 pax, 1@ 187 pax layout)
2 Boeing MD-87s (130 pax layout)
2 Canadair 604 Challenger (Biz Jet charters)
2 Boeing MD-11 (1 @ 410 pax, 1 @ 323 pax)

Heres my idea: (granted I had all the money in the world to spend)

Fleet:
777-200 ER/300
767-300 ER
757-200/300
737-700/800

Hubs:
DFW-Domestic and Latin America
DEN-Domestic
SFO-Domestic and Pacific
CLT-Domestic, Canada, and the Atlantic

Focus Cities:
BOS
ORD
MIA
LAX
JFK

Every city would have atleast one flight to each hub. Cities with a metro area of more than 500,000 people would have flights to select focus cities. Cities with a metro area of 1,000,000 or more would have flights to all focus cities and other high yield routes.

MGA (Megopolis Airlines)

Based out of BDL, my airline would serve the northeast corridor (hence the name: the area from BOS to WAS is know as the megopolis).

MGA would fly throughout New England and New York, with addtional service to the south and Midwest.

MGA would have international service originating at BDL to select European and Canadian ports. Some of the flights would stop at BOS or EWR, others would be NS, with feeder traffic at BDL from other ports.

(Imagine how nice it would be to get to Europe from, say, PVD, without having to go through the "big" airports).

Fleet:

Domestic:
BAC 146, or whatever its current model is called
737-500

Long-haul:
767-300

Existing airline:
Singapore Airlines Limited

Hub:
Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore

Aircraft:
Boeing 777-200s, 777-200ERs, 777-300, 747-400s, Airbus Industrie A310-300s, A340-300Xs.

Changes to be made:

Discard all Economy Class seating to be replaced by those found on the 777-200ER and placed at a seat pitch of 34.5" (except on A310s and A340s)

When Ultimo Raffles Class seating is replaced by SpaceBeds, they are to be kept in storage with Singapore Airlines Engineering Company to be premium Economy Class seating for ultra-long haul flights. (Except on A310s and A340s)

Replace all First Class seating on all planes except Megatops with those SkySuites found on Megatops. (Except on A310s and A340s)

Replace A340-500 order with 747-400XQLR order.
Increase pay for all staff except board of directors by 5%. Reduce board of directors fees by 10%. Increase pay for cabin crew by an additional 2% based on performance.

Increase budget for human resources division of KrisFlyer.

Install solar panels on all SIA buildings progressively over a ten year period.

Reintroduce the selling of SIA towels on KrisShop (the inflight sales thing).

Increase the generosity of the KrisFlyer program.

Set up an airline in Australia with Emirates or find another feasible option for an airline in Australia with the help of analysts and industry analysts.

Approach the Chinese government to take a 50.5% stake in China Southern Airlines.

With old Economy seats from Megatops, and 772/773s, replace all Economy seating in A310-300s temporarily and install KrisWorld.

With a nicer A310, reinstate the Singapore - Cairns service.

Increase size of Economy Class meals by 25%.

Advertise on the television across the world more.

Replace male flight attendant uniforms.

Renovate toilets to make them more appealing.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

Air Texas

An air taxi service that flies into small airports without airline service. Service would include trips throughout Texas and the southwest and Mexico. You could fly into DFW or IAH or wherever and be taken to that small town. It would be affordable for normal people to fly also.

Fleet:
Small jets and turboprops with 6 to 8 seats.

Hello,

A small Low Cost Carrier, starting with 2 aircraft (perhaps B737-300’s since they are available pretty cheaply) operating from Basel or Zurich depending on what concessions we get from either airport. My favourite choice for personal reasons would be Geneva but with easyJet and bmibaby, I don’t think it would be a wise one.

Destinations would be the secondary airports of some key European cities, all within 100 minutes flying of our base to maximise daily flights (8 sectors per aircraft per day) and minimise cost. Currently thinking about Milan-Bergamo, Paris-Beauvais, Brussels-Charleroi and Frankfurt-Hahn.

No free inflight service. Pretty much everything on board such as food and newspapers would be a revenue generator and not a liability. However we might just give a complimentary chocolate before landing as a part of our brand and to show our origins (perhaps we could get the chocolate free through an advertising deal?)

Very strong human resources management (failing of many current European Low Cost Carrier) focussing on recruiting the right people. Employees have to be show themselves as willing to work towards the objectives of the company. Smiles, smiles and more smiles. Helpful and friendly to customers at all times.

Blitzkrieg marketing campaign at the start with many free seats etc.

interesting concept. the service sounds very familiar  Smile/happy/getting dizzy dunno if all the route suggestions would work. Like the mention of Humberside/Hull  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I think Leeds is pretty much sorted in terms of destinations, maybe a german service needed. London City has so much more potential i agree.

Cheers HUYfan- it's not hard to see where I got my inspiration from, and you'd know all about them! Big grin
I agree that most of the routes from LBA wouldn't work because of the competion, but I'm sure a Leeds direct to the business centre of London (ie LCY) service would work a few times a day with a 30-50 seater plane.
I have to book flights online between London and Leeds very often for my dad- BD often doesn't show availability on the required dates, and BA flys to LGW which is good for connections, but not for businessmen/commuters who work in The City IMO... Thanks for your response!

Regards!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
p.s. I apologise for my dreadful spelling of Copenhagen!

Brief Company History:

Speedways National was founded in July of 2002 and operated with a fleet of four leased A319s to St. Louis and Midway. The airline added Cincinnati to the list of destinations in early 2003. These routes proved to be successful with at least 70 per cent load factors.

Speedways International introduced non-stop departures to New York-JFK Int’l and Los Angeles International in late 2003, making Indianapolis a transcontinental hub. The routes were operated with new A321s. 2003 was also the year in which Speedways began purchasing its aircraft.

Passenger: That's quite simple. I'd go as cheap as possible. I'd buy a couple of very powerful circus cannons, place them at a couple of major airports, stick people in, aim the cannon (accounting for various atmospheric conditions, winds, etc.) and blast them away!!!  Acting devilish

cheers for the reply englandair, Leeds-LCY does have potential, but when the UK's BEST regional airline tried the route a few years back, it was'nt a success. The reason was the lack of promotion for the route. It started dreadfully, but by the time it was axed, the loads were reasonable. It was operated 4x daily, the first and last two sectors did well, it was the middle two that performed poorly. what is needed is for someone to base a 30 seater at LBA and operate LBA-LCY, LBA-DUS, LBA-LCY making use of two new markets and keeping the a/c busy all day  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

fingers crossed

I really don't want to crash on your dreams or anything but everyone of those ideas will land you in chapter 7 bankruptcy, if you can find some sucker to provide you that kind of funding. Lets get something strait this industry is not for airplane lovers, its for successful business leaders. - and its not a get rich quick industry either. Most startup airlines fail... I mean fail don't last more than 10 years. The airline industry is a very controlled industry led and run by the majors, whom don't intend on losing due to the amount of capital they have in a reserve. First off.... Most airlines...In fact most business fail because of rapid growth. Asoon as they make a little money in one market they jump to another.. Leaving no room to dominate one market because they are already in a new one. Remember if you get greedy you will fail...infact i promise you that. Next if you really want to enter this industry understand that you are going to fail....just a manner of how bad. Before you select your routes forget about "oh, all the big guys fly here..so i should too and with the 777"...... No find a market thats underserved !!!!!.... look at the slots that the majors all suspended and go for that one..... if you can start stealing there suspended routes you got something going....there attention....forget the newest latest aircraft...find one that gives you the highest loads....and best bang for the buck.. Now you got an aircraft that makes you money and your very own market....GREAT !!!...... just stick with it .....(stay in your league)..because if you jump into another market without...ummm lets say 2 years worth of cash to cover 2 years worth of losses for that market... i don't care how good it is.

And back to basics........ RESEARCH YOUR MARKETS.... STUDY AIRLINE BANKRUPTCIES..... include why others failed in your business plan.... and if you want that venture capital.... you need a WELL KNOWN MANAGEMENT TEAM..

- Just My Opinion.......i could be wrong

I would start Treasure State Airlines. With a fleet consisting of 4 MD-90's, 6 DHC-8's, 22 717's, and 12 CRJ-700's. It would be a part of the WINGS alliance. And from its base in BIL, it would serve SLC, DEN, MSO, BZN, BTM, MSP, STL, HVR, SEA, GEG, PDX, FCA, and BOI.

Donder10,

It isn't the population itself (+400,000), it is the catchment area including Germany and France. The major Swiss cities such as Bern, Neuchatel and Zurich are also all within 1 hour.

Okay here is the newest one that i have been working on....

Its an all business class airline....

Attaché Airlines

Attaché + ONEWorld = anywhere you want to go.
Attaché Airlines, the only airline in the world to offer business class, at affordable fares.

Not only is this business class, but its business class that everyone will want to fly.

On Attaché Airlines you’ll be flying aboard the most modern airliners in the aviation industry today.
Our business class is superior. On board you will find Luxurious accommodations, with generous pitch. All seats are equipped with Personal Television Systems (PTVS) by Sony, with live Echo star® DISHNETWORK satellite TV (Within continental United States, on international flights, all other on-demand movies are available, as well as many prerecorded shows).

We have 3 major hubs all over the country, and this means better service for you.

That’s right. With 3 major hubs located through out the United States, connecting to your destination should be a breeze. Not including the 2 mini-hubs.
• Washington Dulles (IAD) Washington DC
• Los Angles International (LAX) Los Angeles CA
• Logan International (BOS) Boston MA
• Mini-hub: Houston International (IAH) Houston TX
• Mini-hub: Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) Ft. Lauderdale FL

We’ve got you covered in the North and East,
We’ve got you covered in the West,
We’ve got you covered in the middle.
We’ve got you 100% wherever you want to go.

Alliances. We’ve got them, and for you it means you can travel more places with less hassle.

Yes. We’ve got alliances covered. How about, Attaché is a member of ONEWorld, the world’s airline alliance. Which means you’re about to be flying an airline who is partners with American Airlines, British Airways, and more. We also have a special code-share agreement with US Airways and Jet Blue.

The fleet. It is the most modern and comfortable thing flying at 37,000 FT.

We’ve got lots of shiny new airliners to fly you where you want to go!

- Boeing 737-600
- Boeing 737-800
- Boeing 757-200
- Boeing 767-200ER
- Boeing 767-400
- Boeing 777-200ER
- Canadair Regional Jet 700 CRJ-700

Attachémiles. It's now easier than ever to earn them. When you fly with us each segment earns 600 miles or actual mileage. Once you get 24000 miles, you've got a roundtrip ticket on us (within continental United States).

I'd also like to start every hour non-stop services between Entebbe, Uganda and Jefferson City, Missouri using B744s and A346s. I'd have antique lead crystal chandeliers and the a/c would be in all first class configuration.
Oh, and I'd like to borrow money from Jfk747 in order to do it Big grin Big grin Big grin
