1:144 Conversions

Tue Jun 18, 2002 12:04 pm

Among the few "gaps" in 1:144 scale airliner kits that I would like to build are the A319, 737-500 and MD-90. I am looking for ideas from anyone who has "been there, done that" in building any or all of these types in 1:144 (or seen it done). In particular...

Can the Minicaft 737-300 or -400 be successfully cut down to a -500 without running into problems with the fuselage underside taper aft of the wingroot fairing? Same question for cutting a Revell A320 or 321 down to an A319. If so, how much is removed forward and aft of the wings of the respective types and where?

Is there a reasonably priced, straightforward conversion (vacuform and/or resin) currently available for building a 1:144 MD-90?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

for the 319, check this out

for the 737-500 remove remove 10.5 mm forward of the wing and 7 mm aft of the
wing using the -300 kit (so you can keep the overwing exits.)

the md-90 is something else, requireing extra fuesalage plugs and new engines. Welsh models makes a vaccuuform kit, and i believe that either braZ resin or Gatwik Miniatures is coming out twith a resin conversion kit. oh yeah, and you need the bit on the tail as in the md-87 and 717.

i would HIGHLY recommend that you join the airliner modeling newsgroup. I access it through yahoo, so my mail box doesn't get filled up.

When in doubt, one B pump off
