How To Speed Up My PC?

Sun Sep 08, 2002 12:12 pm

I have had flight sim 2002 for a while know, but I havent been able to run it cause my P.O.S Computer cant handle it Its a Compact Pentium 2, about 4 years old. Would it help if I got a new video card, would that make my game run smooth? If now I think I will but a new PC. one more question, whats the diffrence between a Intel Celeron and a Pentium 4? Thanks again, -Brett

Hkgspotter1, don't bother with pentium 4 if you're upgrading from pentium 3.

I thought about doing this a couple of weeks back and you have to get more than just the processor.

You need:

1. A new processor.

2. A new motherboard as the processor doesn't fit into a pentium 3 motherboard.

3. A new case as the motherboard that fits a pentium 4 processor needs a pentium 4 case (not just your usual one - need a certain amount of pins.)

So all in all your looking at about £350 = $500.

P4s are faster in clock speed, and have a greatly faster frontside Bus speed. So it would be worth it if you have that kind of money.

Brett, the Celeron is a budget chip, about the equivelant of an AMD Duron. The P4 competes with the AMD Athlon chip.

With a P2 system, to upgrade to P4 you need:

New case
New motherboard
New memory
New video card (PCI to AGP)
New power supply (which would come with the case)

You'd just be better off buying a loaded HP or other PC for $600 from any major retailer. CPUs are so fast nowadays, a few hundred Mhz goes unnoticed.

New CPU (obviously)
New Case (unles you already have one with the P4 power connectors from the PSU)
New Motherboard
You dont need new memory or video card

Better off building one yourself or getting someone you know to build one.

Indeed, there are still alot of PCI slots on a P4MB. So no AGP vidcard is needed, although advisable if you are to get high fps...
