Mach 3 Model Shop

Fri Nov 01, 2002 3:29 am

 Smile Hi everyone!  Smile

Just got back from LHR, and it was fantastic!

I went to the model shop on top of the Queens building, called Mach III.
There was a massive plastic model, don't know who by, but it was a Malaysian 747 and it was beautiful. £49.99! That is cheap!

I didn't buy it . . . and now I wish I had done.
Is there a website for that shop?

Any help would be great!

Thanks for all your replies!

Word oif advice dont waste your money on it. Theres a reason why its cheap. Its crap. I had a SIA B744 model from the same shop by the same manafacturer as this MH model you are going on about. Its made out of lightweight plastic, and is obviously pretty shoddy. The only thing that drew me to it was the sheer size. Stupidley i rbought it for £49.99, and sold it by the next month for about £30. Its made by Long Prosper and is 1/100 scale, but just doesn't seem to have the same build quality as there 1/200/250 scale models.
My advice, dont buy it. You'll kick your self for wasting £50.

Just another thing while i'm here. The Mach III model shop puts about a 10% makr up on everything compared with every other model shop i've been to in the UK. Also compared to online prices. Just becuase its at LHR means they have a monopoly and think they can charge more. They can and they do. Dont get sucked in by there nice displays  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Hi DC-10

The mail order division of Mach III is www.aviationretaildirect.com and their prices are pretty competetive by UK standards, although they do tend to charge ridiculous prices for anything they think constitutes a rare model, as does the LHR shop. Did you see the display of rare Gemini's including a VS 744 which I think is £250 or something daft?!

Having said that, the prices are still mostly cheaper than the CAMC shop in the Sheraton.

Yeah I saw that display, it looked great.
Well, I'm now considering starting collecting Herpa's 1:500 models.
I was going to build an airport, but the prices for the buildings are terrible!
So, I'm just going to collect those models.

Are any of these models able windtunnel toys? If so, I want it.
