Project AI For FS2002.

Sun Dec 08, 2002 9:19 am

I recently installed the **fabulous** AI program from Project AI. I have to admit,I was blown away! I love seeing and hearing 'real' airlines. I downloaded all US airlines except Southwest because FS2002 will not say their callsign,or has that been fixed? I also want to d/l Air Canada and Tango.
I'm still waiting to see DL MD11's , guess I'll have to go to ATL. This program is so good , I deleted my default MD83's and 747's . I wish they had Fed Ex,NW,AA and Airborne Express.
You can find this at http://www.projectai.com . You must first d/l a 'base' program, then you can add away.

hehehe.... welcome to my parlor said the spider to the fly  Smile

NW and AA are coming soon enough... and for SWA if you want the callsign, download and run a program called Editvoicepack, it'll fix not only Southwest, but lots of others too, and it will allow you to add your own voice calls for any airport/aircraft/airline you want... theoretically at least  Smile

We have a new installer system coming too, which will make instalation easier.

Welcome to the show  Smile

Project AI is awesome - 2 new arlines were uploaded on the 6th. Frame rates are still excellent too - I only wish more airlines were available now! Keep up the good work guys!  Smile

I have a quick question re Project AI. How detailed are the AI aircraft? I added a load of Ai flights to my sim using planes i had downloaded, and the frame rates became unplayable. If the aircraft are not too detailed then i think it should be ok, as the ones i used were quite detailed..

PAI aircraft are detailed enough that at a distance they look good.
When you get real close to them (like when you're taxiing up behind one) they don't look all that great because of the low polycount but that's the tradeoff that has to be made to get performance.

I recently downloaded and installed ALL the airline packages from Project AI and they're great!!! Its amazing to finally see ATL filled with Delta traffic and Heathrow filled with BA and Virgin planes. Great work

However I did have some problems with the auto installers and I'm wondering if anybody else did?... For example the Air France and AC Tango packages would not install. It would add the planes and flight plans but it would not compile the traffic.bgl file. After compiling it manually I found that the compiler was reporting several errors concering non existant airports. For example it would say that VVNB (Hanoi, Vietnam) and CYSJ (Saint John's ,NB, Canada) are not valid airports. I then had to add them manually to the Airports.txt and it compiled. I also got many of the above errors for Varig.

Anybody know if that's an error on my part or PAI bug?

Also the callsign that is used for BA in PAI is 'British', so I had to go through all the .cfgs and change it to 'Speedbird'.

Overall great work!!!... keep more airlines coming... when can we see a LOT package???

I had a problem with Air France. I installed it,went to CDG and didn't see ** 1 ** Air France bird! Maybe I didn't do this right...............I just love how the correct airports are assigned to the correct airline with the correct fleet type for the airport . Example : jetBlue in LHR or Virgin 747 in RDU. Just ****LOVE**** it! Looking forward to new airlines. Maybe some freighters?
Also, did the website people have to get permission to use the airline's logos? I've heard that American is real bad about having it used- it is advertising when Joe FS'r hears "American" 50 times as a callsign in a flight.
Actually,I'm d/l'ing Corsair right now . I wonder if their 747SP will be in there?
Also, when I was taxiing @ JFK today,I was behind DL's Soaring Spirit 777 - looks great! All lit up inside. I have a new Dell 2gig & 64MB video card , so there are great frame rates.

I didn't have any space to park my UA A319 when I arrived there and my computer can't handle so many aircraft movements at 100% AI.
If I had I better comp. I would run AI at high just to get the feel of Atlanta's heavy traffic.  Smile
Project AI is really great. Can't imagine FS without it. Thanks a lot PAI!

LOL @ United Fan. I have room for almost 100 aircraft at ATL, and it is row after row of DL. When departing ATL it is a case of waiting for 10-15 minutes before you can even clear your IFR flight plans!!!!

I have now removed all of my additional flight plans, and are rebuilding it using PAI only. I found the frame hit I was getting before was making landings almost impossible at some airports (I was using a lot of Posky aircraft). I am more willing to take the hit in visual quality than playability, considering you see most of the AI aircraft on the ground only anyway.

I noticed that National was just released. Too bad they're history. It'll remind me of seeing them @ LAS in October  Smile BTW,who is FA Air ?
Also putting my AA Astrojet into ATL @ 100% traffic was a nightmare. I'll have to turn traffic down to 70% next time . Also, has anyone seen a BA or AF Concorde with AI ?

I tried Project AI but I cannot get it to work. Where do I install the compiler tool at? Also, I downloaded the individual airplanes and then the paints I wanted to use, do I put these in the regular aircraft folder? How about the txt file for the flights?

I also downloaded the jetBlue auto installer, the airplane was in the folder but I never saw one. I sat at JFK for hours. Could someone help me out here.

J.mo,

You need to install the base pack before you use the auto-install airline repaints. Doing this will automatically load all the required base models into your aircraft folder. This will allow the auto-installers to insert the textures, and decompile-add flightplans and aircraft-compile your traffic.bgl.

A couple of reasons why the above may not work is:

- You did not install FS2002 into the default directory (c:program filesmicrosoft gamesfs2002 ). In this case you will need to do a bit of manual installing.

- You do not have a required airport in the airport.txt file. For this you will need to create the airport in the airport.txt file (you can download full airport.txt files from the PAI web site), or you will not be able to complete the compile.

I hope this helps.

I have now installed all the PAI installers, plus re-installed repaints of the default aircraft and schedules for other airlines as an interim step before the PAI version is released. Now if you want to land or take off at ATL, LAX, LHR, AMS, ORD, DEN, etc. get in the queue  Big thumbs up

Unfortunately I had to get rid of the Posky B767's and A330's because of the frame hit  Sad

Does anyone know how to change BA's and WN's callsigns so they actually work. I know if you change SPEEDBIRD to 2 words it will work,or vice versa. Not sure about SOUTHWEST. I know ATC will say this when you get dirctions, but not for a callsign.

You have to make sure that VVNB (Hanoi, Vietnam) is in your airports.txt file for Air France to work.

You need to decompile traffic.bgl and then to the resulting airports.txt file add the following line:

VVNB,N21* 13.14',E105* 48.17',39

Then recompile and you're all set to intall the Air France package.

Ok, I really need help here.
I downloaded all of the auto installers, and they all worked.
I got to the FS2002 Aircraft menu and the only planes I see that are Project AI are the delta ones.
I looked in the aircraft folders, and found out that only the delta planes have .air files. So I downloaded them, but still no luck.
I can only see delta traffic (as well as default fs02 traffic) in ATL!

I went to EGGW, London Luton to see if there were any easyjet which I downloaded, but nothing!

Any help appreciated!

Since the PAI planes are intended for AI only... most of them are not selectable from the FS2002 aircraft menu, and this was done on purpose and it doesn't mean that they're not in the AI.

That said, I did find problems with a few of the auto installer packages, well the old ones I haven't tried any of the new format ones yet. Anyways the PAI installers don't inform you of errors, but I found that if the compiler shows that it's "sorting sector bands" then the intall is successful, however it it doesn't show that then the new flightplans DID NOT compile and won't work.

If the compile doesn't work all is not lost, because the aircraft.txt and flightplans.txt files have been updated and saved, just not compiled. So what you have to do is run the compiler manually and see what errors come up. If you fix those errors and recompile it will work.

Most errors that I found were a semicolon in the wrong place or an entry missing from my airports.txt file, like the one above.

RE: Project AI For FS2002.

I'm pleased to report one of the new-found virtues of ProjectAI's airplanes. Just a few minutes ago, I was finishing a flight in my current favorite airplane (FFG American Airlines 737-800--pick it up at avsim--you won't regret it). I was on final approach into KSAN's runway 27, and I heard Socal Approach talking to a Southwest 737 five miles behind me. Another five miles behind it was a United 757. I figured that I could get off the runway soon enough so that the SWA 737 wouldn't have to go around, but I also thought that the 737 would linger on the runway, as the default AI traffic does, and that the United 757 would have to go around. I was wrong, and happy becuase of it. The 737 exited the runway swiftly, and it used a taxiway that it could reasonably make. The 757 had plenty of time to land. When it did, it used most of the runway, and exited using a different taxiway! There was no aircraft behind the 757, but if there were, it would have had plenty of time.

If you'll remember, all the default AI traffic exits using the same taxiway-- that's why it takes so long for the Caravans to get off the runway--they proceed at taxi speed along the entire lenght, until they reach the one taxiway where they are programmed to exit. So, it appears that Project AI has solved that problem. I don't know how they did it, but I'm very happy about it.

Yes the new installer will soon be for all airlines, at which time the old installers will be removed from the site. We're taking the chance with the installer switch to upgrade several of the airlines, like KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways, USAirways, etc... with better and/or more repaints and/or improved flight plans.

United Fan,

Quick question for you. In your thread starter, you mentioned that you deleted the default MD-83s. How has that worked out? Personally, I'm getting pretty annoyed with the "Soar" airplanes. They have a stupid callsign, and a bad paint job to boot. I'd love to get rid of them.

An update on my MD-83 situation:

At first, I decided to do as United Fan did, and delete my default MD-83s. I navigated the FS world without MD-83s, and I started to miss them. So, I decided that I would look for some repaints of actual airlines. I found something I liked on avsim.com. It was a texture of TWA's most recent paint scheme--pretty sharp if you asked me. While I was at it, I also decided to download some repaint textures for my default Dash 8s and Caravans. For the Caravan, I chose a Fed Ex paint scheme, and for the Dash 8's, I chose the Continental Express and America West Express liveries. This worked great-no more Orbit, Airwave, Soar, Landmark, or Emerald Harbor. But I still had one problem--the callsigns. FS ATC was still calling them by their default airline callsigns, even though they had been repainted to to real liveries. To correct this, I chose to download a fix file from avsim that makes the MD-83s and Dash 8s flyable. Then, I chose real callsigns for them from my updated airline file. And now, it looks and works great.

Because I had chosen the TWA paintscheme for my MD-83s, I elected to give them American Airlines callsigns, since American is the new owner of TWA.

Now, you may be wondering what I decided to do with my default 777 and 747s. I downloaded some repaints for them too, and chose the appropriate callsigns from the menu.

Now, there isn't one bit of AI traffic that doesn't have a paint job that exists in reality.

I still have some trouble with Southwest. As some of you mentioned earlier, they callsign won't work, and I can't get the fix to work either. Also, sometimes there are two Southwest flights with the same flight number flying formation. But, it's worth it to see Southwest airplanes parked when I make my arrival.

I have had no problems with any of the PAI installers - new or old. I also keep the Editvoicepack up to date to make sure I have the callsigns present.

Appart from the having all the default PAI installers installed, I also have AA and NW schedules installed (where I could find low poly-count aircraft to keep FPS up). One of the airports that has now come to life is KLAS  Big thumbs up

I landed there last night and played dodge the aircraft. With two runways operating I would say the airport was running at about 40-50 movements per hour (which is pretty good for FS2002 AI). The only other airports I have busier would be KDEN (5 runways active - about 50-55 movements per hour), and KORD (6 runways active - up to 70 movements per hour). All as I need now is an addon that makes ATC talk a little faster so I am not contacting the tower 2 miles out  Smile

Keep pursisting with it guys, it is worth the reward once you get it all installed.

Well,I got a little carried away last nite deleting default AI planes and I deleted the Cessna 172SP. Well,as I now know, you cannot delete this plane . This is the plane that is displayed at the start of FS2002. And FS2002 will not run at all without it. So , unfortunately , I had to uninstall and reinstall FS. Not good.
