Is ANR Worth The Money?

Wed Jul 16, 2003 1:34 pm

Hi there
I am considering purchasing a headset. I have all of the Lightspeed headsets at home on trial. I will probably get the 15XL of the 20XL/2. The difference in price is roughly $350 NZD. Is ANR really worth the extra money? I have found the headsets to be very comfortable. Is lightspeed the way to go?

Thanks for your help.

What kind of airplane do you fly. If you sit very near the engine(s), get the ANR. The constant drone of the engine takes a toll on your hearing. If you fly a lot then yea, the cost is very much worth it! If you don't fly too much, then you just need to decide if you want the ANR or not.

I fly the Piper Tomahawk about 1 hour a week but will be flying 3 hours a week next year. I want the headset to last me all my training years.
Thanks Cancidas

I'd ask this question in the Tech/Ops forum... all pilots use headsets... and I'm sure plenty of them will have experience with ANR. I, unfortunately, have only used passive, and have no complaints through 100 hours of flight time.
