Want To Become An A/c Painter - But Don't Know HOW

Tue Jul 22, 2003 5:36 am

Hello!

I'm very interested for becoming a aircraft livery painter for FS...

But there's 1 problem:
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO!

I can't find any websites with turtorials or anything similar...

Any help would be great!
Thanks,

Florian

Flightsim.com has a tutorial to painting aircraft under their 'How To' section.

You have a couple of options:
You can by an aircraft editing studio like
or you can download a texture file converter. Then I recommend you download a textured aircraft to play with. Once the texture is converted you can use paint to edit the bmps. The editing studios have the advantage that they allow you to texture the plane in one piece whereas a lot of the converted textures require that you edit each little part of the plane a piece at a time.
I hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you need anymore help.

Thanks, Florian

Hello, I would like to do so too (Paint A/C)

I need help in 2 areas:

FS2000 .bmp based airplanes:
- Any color restraints...such as that .bmp has to be in 24 bit color/256, etc...?
- How do you define a color to be transparent...or is it Black throughout?

FS98 and 2000 .mdl based airplanes:
- How do I duplicate an (e.g.) A320 not only by copying it to another folder?

Easternpanam explained that I could play with the mdl file. But what happens if I wanted to duplicate the plane. See below...
- After repainting the duplicate, I have to change the aircraft's title (e.g. Northwest A320 to United A320) what tools do I use to give that aircraft another name and give the airplane's info - viewable in the Select Aircraft menu?

And yes, can I see the link to the editing studio?? Thanks!

I use Photoshop to paint airplanes...
If you want to try out my paints, check out my newest downloads on AVSIM, search for 'hoons',... but do NOT download my old repaints, sort my repaints by 'date' in the search results  Big grin

The biggest mistake made by most human beings: Listening to only half, understanding just a quarter and telling double.

Oh and btw, Spotterboy, I know one: Abacus Software does have a tool to create aircrafts. Just search for Abacus Software +FS2000 or whatever version -- in Google.

If you want to just be a painter, simply duplicate the A/C and repaint over it. Then ask the original designers whether you can distribute the plane...it's theirs in the first place.
