FS2004 Problem...HELP!

Thu Jul 31, 2003 4:26 am

I've been using FS since version 4, and this is the first problem I've ever had.
I'm running WindowsME first of all...

When I am trying to install it, it goes to the directX set up and then does nothing...it says its starting the install but nothing happens.

I've tried to run the DirectX install before doing the FS setup, but it gets to the "copying files" stage and freezes...

anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Thanks!

Get rid of WinME...

Sorry, but that's most likely the best solution. WinME is a piece of total crap, worst OS Microsoft ever released (and that includes Windows 98 first edition).

LOL@B727.

I'm in much the same situation (only worse). It now IS on sale here but the store I ordered it from elected to not ship the preordered copies yet (while they do now have it on shelves).
I guess they consider the preorders money already in and want to profit from the initial hype to get more while preorders wait for the next shipment  Crying  Angry

Flyer732,

Are you trying to install directx from the FS2k4 CD? If you are, try installing directx via Windows Update or download the standalone version here and then try and install FS2k4:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx

I too have to agree about WinMe....get rid of it and go for XP.

If you can't afford XP, you can go with Windows 2000. Very stable as well, just as stable as XP.

Shawn, 2000 Pro tends to cost more than XP Home... so thats not really an option... XP Home should be available as the upgrade for around $75-$125USD depending where you are. I can get it for about $145CDN. Don't believe the bull you'll hear about the upgrade not being as stable as the full version, the upgrade and full version are exactly the same its just different licensing. You can even format your drive before or during the XP install so no ME files will hang around (which is probably a very good idea, ME tends to be a real pain).
Just keep your ME disk hanging around incase you ever need to re-install XP (note that if its an OEM ME or recovery disk, the upgrade may not recognize it without the disk, and very rarely even wont accept it at all, Sony VAIO recovery and HP recovery disks are bad for that).
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
