Airline Empires - New Online Airline Simulation

Tue Aug 26, 2003 9:32 am

Well, its finally here...almost. We've put the game on the web and will begin beta testing in the next few weeks. I've spent very little time on layout of the site, since I wanted to get the game mostly completed before we spent the money on a server, so suggestions on the layout are welcome. Screenshots and more features to come. Full game will be free to play. I will post a message on the Airline Empires forum when we're ready for beta-testers, however we're not ready yet.

Let me know what you think!

The site looks great!

I'm really exicted about this, i remember back in '01 hearing about your project, I'm very excited you've seen this through.

On the a/c screen i was sort of wondering- why the diffrence in price and turnaround between the 328 and 328 jet? and doesn't the 747 turnaround time seem a bit steep? The froum looked a bit weird to me, lots of red X's, but that might just be my browser. Enough of that, though, I can't wait!

Go Boilers!

Interesting about the red X's. I've used different browsers and have yet to recreate. The forum is operated by XMB, so I've not much knowledge in the inner-workings of the code behind it. I'll definately be looking into that.

A lot of the numbers for the aircraft were thrown together, and will be tweeked during beta testing. There are a few numbers you can't see, however, such as a fixed cost applied for each take-off and landing. To calculate the turn times, we used several factors such as, powerplant (turboprop/jet), seats, and typical range. The 747 and A380 both max out the equations. The reason being most 747 flights are international with long catering, fuel, cleaning, and boarding times. Granted, none of these equations have been tested yet. That's what beta is for. I see what you mean about the 328 and 328jet. I'm skeptical about the 328prop price, but can't remember what source the info came from, so I'll have to do some more research.

Thanx for the input! Keep the suggestions coming.

Im surprised to see some aircraft types not being offered in this game-specifically the 737-300 and -700 series, both of which are mainstays of LCC fleets!

Also, where's the A-321!?

Just my two cents!

How much will it cost to get a login name? Looks like it could be pretty fun though.

The aircraft were selected for beta-testing, which means we needed a realistic sample, rather than the whole sha-bang. More will be added later, however what aircraft we offer is not our concern at the moment. Perfecting the economic models and eliminating bugs must all be completed before we add new cities or aircraft.

As far as cost for playing the game, we have every intention of keeping the game free to play. We are tossing around the idea of allowing players to "invest" in their airline, however that would only be introduced to recoup the costs of servers if ads weren't sufficient. Even if we adopted the investment idea, the game would still be free to play.

We have no definite opening day for beta-testing, as we are all taking this project on part-time. We do have plans to open beta testing within a few weeks.
