Discovery Wings Channel

Mon Sep 08, 2003 6:26 am

Anybody on here have the Discovery Wings Channel? I was able to watch it a little today at work. What I saw seemed fairly interesting. Is it worth the investment to add it to my cable? Anybody that has it that would like to comment would be great. Thanks

They have some interesting programming but tend to repeat them too many times in my opinion. Of course being 24 hours station there is limited new stuff for them to show. I like the British show "Airport" for one. I enjoy the channel overall but would not pay extra just for it alone. I have the Top 150 package and this comes with it along with the NASA channel.

I too have the channel. I like it but most of the shows are on military aircraft not civil aircraft. It is worth the extra money. My favorite show is Airport, Learning to Fly, and A Plane is Born.

I have it, and love it, but it is the re-run king.

Thanks for your replies. Today at work I saw parts of Fasten Your Seatbelts, a very short clip of Learning to fly and A Helicopter is born. I am going to look into what the extra cost is going to be to add it to the programing I have now. Thanks again for your comments.

I have the Wings channel & enjoy it, like everybody else, I tend to get tired of the re-runs. They had one special on the making of the A380 which was very interesting, and the other one was a special on the Boeing plant in Seattle, sheesh, that place is huge!

a plane is born is a great show! i love it. what i find annoying is that the shows are very often repeated.

I'll mirror the above comments and add that I receive the programming included in a "package" of optional channels. You may very well realize a better value if you subscribe to such a package of optional programming rather than purchase Wings Channel solely. I plan on staying subscribed when I move...Jack

The best program on Discovery Wings has to be Flight Deck. I've seen all of them, but always watch them when they're on. For the UK, it's on Thursday nights at around 8pm.

I love it as well..I generally spend evenings (when I have time for viewing)
clicking between the Wings channel and the food network. I love the
Learning to Fly series (I found myself tearing up when she took her first
solo) and the Fasten Seat Belts series. I'm not too crazy about helicopters
or military planes.

I have it and like it a lot. Yes it is true that it doesn't have much airliner stuff though.

My favorite shows are:
Airport: Made by the BBC, 30 minutes long covering real events going on in London Heathrow.

Fasten Your Seatbelt: One hour show discussing different aviation topics for each show, military, general, airliner, and history.

Centennial of Flight: One hour show dedicated to celebrating 100 years of flight covering many aviation milestones throughout aviation's history.

There are a lot of other great shows also. Well worth it, but if you only care about airliners, then you will be disappointed.

The #1 topic is aviation history (both military and civil). Since I am really into aviation history, I like the channel a lot.

Thanks alot for all of your input. Sounds like it is a channel I will be interested in. Hopefully it won't cost too much extra to get. Thanks again.

As mentioned the best programs are Airport, A Plane Is Born, A Chopper Is Born & Learning To Fly. There is also a Fasten Your Seatbelts where they profile AA's operations at DFW, that program is entertaining. I wish they would have more on Air Traffic Control... A while back I on Discovery there was a show called 'Air Cops' or it might have been 'Air Bosses'. Either way, it was a good show and haven't seen it since.
