FS2K4's Great Hole

Sat Sep 27, 2003 11:28 am

Has anyone seen a massive hole in the ground around the North-East corner of Texas? I saw it during a KORD-KDFW flight, and went back (using slew) after landing to have a look.

The coordinates are N33* 46.71, W93* 57.25 and measured at -15,189 feet at the bottom. Is this some wierd error that is unique to my setup or has others got it too?

There is also a large hole near Hope, Arkansas that has been dubbed the "Clinton Depression" and a large flat-topped mountain near Memphis, Tennessee, "Mount Naner Sammitch". The fix for these elevation errors is available at flightsim.com.

There is quite a few things like that in the FS2004 world. I wonder if MS would fix this stuff if alot of people told them about it.

Lehpron,

It's a glitch.

Um... a glitch?

So how do glitches randomly grow bridges?

I guarantee that that hole in TX is an "easter egg", that is, something the programmers just throw in to see if people find it. I figure programmers have to have fun somehow.

Because it's a glitch!

What you see there is actually a river in real life with a bridge in real life, however by accident the river turned out to be a deep canyon and the bridge stayed with it. This has to do with elevation data error and can be easily corrected.

I guarantee that that hole in TX is an "easter egg", that is, something the programmers just throw in to see if people find it. I figure programmers have to have fun somehow.

No, it's not an easter egg. Easter eggs are things like the Aurora Borealis, and Kilauea in Hawaii erupting. It's been confirmed that it's a glitch and there are a couple others like it.

There are patches at Flightsim.com that fix them and there is a rumor that Microsoft is working a patch to fix these glitches along with some other bugs.

its a grid coordinate error, a 0 got set or a - snuck into the altitudes for the grid points somehow- thats all, it happened alot in FS2002.
