Is It Possible To Follow Ai Aircraft

Mon Jan 05, 2004 11:50 am

Does anyone know if it is possible to follow the default AI aircraft in Mcof from take off to landing? I seem only able to follow an AI aircraft in spot view for about 10 mins then the spot view goes back to my aircraft.

Yes, takeoff behind them and follow em, I tried it once in an F18 I downloaded and followed a Dash-8 from SAN-FUL...the ATC kept warning the Dash-8 of traffic 6 o'clock less than a mile though.... Laugh out loud

yes thanks Futurepilot but thats what i do.Ctrl+w allows to see the AI aircraft in spot view but when the ai aircraft is about 100 nm from my aircraft the spot view automatically leaves the ai aircraft and comes back to my aircraft,so i am unable to follow the entire flight of the ai aircraft.

so i am unable to follow the entire flight of the ai aircraft.

That is easy, just follow it when it takes off with a F-16 or any other fast jet.

Unlike the real world, the AI aircraft do not fly all the time. FS recognizes an area around your aircraft and displays all of the scheduled AI planes in that area so that your airplane will encounter them. I believe the area is about 40 miles in each direction from where your airplane is located.

That is why when you use Ctrl+W you see that plane until it reaches the boundary and disappears. If you were to follow the AI plane in flight as mentioned above by Futureualpilot , then you will continue to see it.

The AI engine in FS keeps track of the thousands of AI flight plans. To display them all in real time for the entire world would require an extremely powerful computer and possibly an adjunct application to FS.

Hope this helps

search for "AI Tactical Display" in flightsim.com It shows you all the AI planes near you. Remember that these planes use direct routes, it's good to find out their destination and use "go to" in the gps and follow them with the autopilot.

Fantastic!!!

I used Ultimate Traffic to compile a Manchester timetable in pdf format.
I saw that a BA shuttle was due to take off to LHR in 3 minutes time.

I quickly started up FS04 and started to taxi in a BA 733 from FFX, slotting in behind BA1391, an A320.

I was pretty sharp on the takeoff, rolling as soon as I got clearance. I stayed with it all the way down, but I needed to fly direct and at 320kts to keep up.

The CTRL-W was a great tip, thanks. I had a good look at all the other AI traffic en-route until about Oxfordshire, where I settled on the A320. Adding aircraft labels is really useful here to show the altitude and distinguish all the planes in view. I had the inside cockpit view on one monitor and the outside view of the A320 on my other monitor.

It was very busy into LHR (I have Ultimate Traffic set to 100%, using the current Winter timetable) and I flew the approach alongside a United 777, UA934.
I followed it all the way to the runway threshold, where it did a go-around due to the United plane still on the runway.

After landing, I watched the A320 do the approach again, coming back about 20 minutes later, where it did another go-around. I finishe dthe flight at that point.

Thank you for all the posting in this thread, I was able to do a really interesting flight today, all in real-time.

regards,
Craig.
