ATC Sim

Wed Jan 21, 2004 4:33 am

I don't spend much time in this forum, but I thought you guys may be able to help me.

I was just wondering if there was a good ATC simulator out there for my PC. I have not heard of one but thought that there may be one out there. If you know of any can you please let me know? Thanks.

Hi Jason,

Difficult to answer, since I read from your profile you are a professional ATC. You could take a look at http://www.vatsim.net/. This is a worldwide network of people who control Flight Simulator traffic so to speak. You can be a controller there, but doubt if you get thrilled by controlling non-professionals.

About a stand alone simulator, I've had a simple one a while ago, but I forget the name of it. Wasn't that good too and think you wouldn't be enthusiastic about it as well...

I can't help you on anything more, sorry...

Kind regards,

Jeroen

I've been a Sr. Controller on VATSIM since before it was VATSIM (it was SATCO before). If all you are going to do is control, you don't need a flight sim. They have a proprietary ATC app that you use.

I'm serious, though... go look at www.atcsimulator.com

That's exactly what I want the default ATC to be like. I am desperate for aircraft holds prior to landing in fs because I find myself worrying about whether I'm going to get down easily or be within 1nm of AI traffic for my final approach. If the default ATC could hold the traffic then I wouldn't have to worry.

I found one the other day. I don't know how good it really is. The free version was very disappointing and I haven't tried the full version.

The one by Xavius is not bad but limited.

The FS 2002/2004 AI could use some work (being an AI designer/programmer myself) but they don't have a lot of clock cycles to burn after all their rendering. I have often pondered what would go into a proper ATC AI (be it in FS or in an ATC simulator) and it is NOT simple by any means.

There is a really old one called Tower which has terrible graphics and is very repetative but it's alright for a few hours. ATCC from http://www.xavius.com is really good if you get to know how to play it which takes quite a while. I just printed all the commands out and over time I have learnt them. Version 1.0 is free and version 1.1 costs $12 for talking pilots.

I deleted that file and Tower ran fine after that.
