FS Long Haul Flights. How Do You Do It?

Mon Mar 22, 2004 5:29 am

When I fly in FS9 I either fly with Fed Ex, Global Freightways or Landmark my VA. And I keep my schedule very realistic. Like today I just took off at 11:45pm Seattle time to fly to Miami and landed in MIA at 07:35am. I fly what ever time it really is. DO You guys just change the time to what ever you want? Also where ever I ended is where I start again to fly routes my airline does from that city does anyone do that too? But the main question is what do you do on really long flights? Especially ones that go through the night. I had a Co-pilot on the SEA-MIA red eye so he took care of half the flight. But what about when you don’t have anyone else. I just chose VFR and put the plane on GPS hold and then if it is through the night I will just sleep and wake up two hours before schedule arrival time. How do you do it?

Some times I'll use the time (and Flt #) of a flights real departure, other times I'll just fly when I feel like it. For the past few weeks I've spent most of my time in the Citation X.

As for long long hauls I just put the sim in X-16. If it's under a 5 hours I'll use X-4 or X-2. I have to many things in my life to do to fly KEWR-RJBB in real time.

I guess you turn the ATC off, or else you would have some really angry controllers when you put it back in 1x mode!  Laugh out loud

Yea i only fly short hauls over the weekends the longest would be MIA-CLT. But over the summer and breaks I do long hauls to other continents. Like this summer i am going to Austrailia, Asia, Isreal, and Europe. NRT Landmark hub for 2 weeks and fly flights from there and then LHR Landmark Hub for atleast a month. I just base my self around in Landmark Airlines. Like this Winter Break I first did some Northeast flights then went down to Antartica. Next Winter or Spring break i will go to ANC! But i cant wait to do my around the world. Also yea i want to start some more private Jets flights. I Might do a few in LHR and maybe NRT.

Q300,

You just wait till ATC tells you to contact freq XXX.XX, Then confirm the Freq and tune it but don't contact ATC on the new freq. When your ready to slow things back down just contact ATC.

This is a trick we used with 2002 because we couldn't do step climbs with out ATC cancaling our IFR clearance.

I complete everything up to near TOC in real-time, then use 4x until TOD and then back to real-time for descent, approach , and landing/taxiing. I believe 4x is the maximum speed where AI aircraft and flightplans will still function, and this is a feature I personally like to keep active. I mainly fly real-world schedules from a variety of different airlines, using the correct aircraft type for the flight.

Good suggestion Sinlock - I use that little trick myself! It did take me a while to figure out though!

Very handy for doing class work while flying!  Big grin

Cheers - Skytrain.

Here is a good example of how crazy I am and how much I want to do it realistic. I am taking off at 22:10 to RDU from MIA in Landmark DC-9-32. But then later around 01:25 I need to do a nice over night cargo. Fed Ex 727 to Mem! I have to do it at night. It just fun that way! Cant wait till me FS traffic 2004 comes. Then i will be landing with other Fed Ex Pilots too. Thinking about changing call sgins to night to alot of Fed Ex UPS and DHL!
