FS9 And Hyper Threading Tweaks

Wed Sep 15, 2004 5:53 am

Tomorrow I will get my new DELL dimension with a 3 GHZ HT Pentium, 256 ram, and 40gb HD, no video card. I might get more ram and a video card in the future, so that's why I ordered it with that big processor to compensate for the meantime.

I've heard that a great way to improve fs performance is to assign one "virtual" processor solely for fs9, and the "other" processor to run all the other tasks. How do I do that?

Also, do you think I can max out most of the sliders, with 1024 resolution and 16 bit colors?

Any other comment?

Thanks  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Ok I get it, all the flightsim techies are on vacations or they aren't as smart as they say they are to be able answer my question.

""...assign one "virtual" processor solely for fs9, and the "other" processor to run all the other tasks..."

mmm, i wonder if this is going to make a difference. You just have one processor - the HT just looks like another - not sure how much those extra cycles from HT really amount to extra processor capability ?

Read up on HT at the Intel site and see how much you really get out of it.
By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Well, I remember reading a thread in who knows which fs forum site that said by doing what i mentioned, fs9 will run smoother and frame rates might improve depending on the sytem. I can't find that thread anymore. I do remember it was a very large thread dedicated to all fs9 tweaks and performance improvements. Among those was this thing I mentioned and changing the video card settingsin fs9.cfg to generic drivers toget even better frames. Anybody remember that thread? I think it was linked in another thread in this forum.
