Acft/atc Communications

Wed Oct 27, 2004 11:42 pm

I seem to remember being on a flight years ago and one of the "radio" channels in the seat armrest was cockpit communications. Can anyone tell me if it is still possible to listen to acft/atc comm. in-flight??
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

As far as I know, at least for U.S.-based airlines, United is the only one still offering it. Tune in to Channel 9 when you fly United.

Thanks Dave.
Do you know of anywhere I might find the frequencies to tune in on my scanner??
Although I'm not sure if they will allow a scanner on board.

i was going to say when the controllers tells the pilots to switch frequencies, they tell the pilots what frequency to go to so you could conceivably tune in the same frequency, but then you'd be listening in on the same thing as the pilots...

You can get Terminal Area frequencies at and ARTCC's at http://www.milaircomms.com/artcc_frequencies.html. MADtoCAE, to my understanding, like Dave said Channel 9 on UA is the only Airline you will find ATC available in the IFE.

Tarytoons,
You won't be permitted to use your scanner in flight.
There are scores of places to find frequencies, the above posted link and others a search will turn up. Try searching "scanning sites" as well.
I don't understand everything I don't know about this.

SPREE,
Thanks for the heads-up...I hadn't considered radio interference.

I listen to mine, It adds a whole nother view point of your flight. Especially when you have all the Sectors for ARTCC's you'll be flying through Big grin. I just had my scanner down by my side. The pilots never came on the PA and said, we are receiving interference, whoever has the electronical device please turn it off.

You could find airport frequencies on FS2004.
