New System For MS FS2004 Performance Question

Wed Dec 01, 2004 12:37 am

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 9200 notebook with the following specs:
Pentium M 725 processor (1.6 ghz/400 Mhz FSB)
1GB DDR SDRAM at 333MHz 2 Dimm
ATI's™ Mobility Radeon™ 9700 128 MB Graphics Card
XP Professional

What kind of performance can I expect out of Fs2004 on this system, i.e. visual quality, graphics quality at a target frame rate of 25-35 fps. Can I move the sliders anywhere close to max? Any info or educated guesses would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait to get it loaded up as I paid a pretty penny.

That looks very good, particularly in terms of graphics and RAM. You can definitely expect 25-30fps, with near max sliders. With everything totally maxed out and full AI (i.e. UT or PAI) it would be considerably less, but for most things on FS2004 it will suit you fine.

LHR27C: Thanks for your response. The only thing I was concerned about was the slower CPU at 1.6 ghz. I wish I could've gotten a pentium 4 with HT technology. Do you think this will make much of a difference. Oh, I also have a sidewinder forcefeedback joystick. Does that change anything.

Not to mention, if you decides to become an AI power user (ie. ditch the PAI aircraft and go with AIA, FSP, CD, FM etc instead), you can really win back some FPS. A fast example would be, that for each PAI B767 (v2) aircraft you have, you could have 2 AI Aardvark models instead without losing a single FPS.
