AI Landing 27 At SXM?

Sat Dec 11, 2004 2:31 am

I have never seen any of my commerical AI land on runway 27 @ SXM even when 27 is the active, and im not saying they land 09, I have never seen one arrive at SXM when 27 was the active, however ive seen many GA land 27. So is it possible? If so what kind of approach does the commercial AI make into 27???

I've seen commercial AI land on 27 when the winds were blowing from the west, the planes fly right through the mountain  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Michael According to charts VOR DME approaches are made for runway 09 and I think a visual approach is commenced for runway 27 at SXM.May be radar vectoring will be done for aircraft arriving at 27.

Damn, right thru the moutain! That kinda sucks. Would be interesting to see otherwise. Oh well thanks.

Anyone know of someplaces where AI make some interesting approaches?

AI aircraft are programmed to do straight-in approaches only. No "Kai-Tak" style landings are programmed on the AI aircraft (except for GA aircraft when they are executing the standard modified base legs). Given the exponential improvements in every succeeding FS series, I wouldn't be surprised to see the "Kai-Tak" landing features for the AI in future FS series.

I'm pretty sure it is possible to recreate Kai Tak style approaches in FS, as it's possible to write STARS. The whole business of creating a STAR is way over my head, so I can't give you any direction in it.

And if you close runway 27 from AFCAD, that should fix the planes doing an off-roading adventure.
Holy sh*ts and burritos.

SIDs and STARs are not available for AI, the AI always fly set approaches that go in as quickly as possible. I have had many approaches where ATC brings me in from way out then an AI aircraft comes out of nowhere ahead of me.

If you were flying the flight yourself, you could set up a STAR or a SID using a program like FSNavigator, or by preparing it yourself, but when it comes to AI you cannot get them to correctly approach Runway 27.

This happens sometimes that ATC would radar vector us in one route and the AI traffic would emerge from some other direction. In a humorous way we can say that the traffic is Artificial but doesn’t have much intelligence as we thought Smile. But I think it’s possible to recreate and modify the routes of the AI Traffic and thus we can make them follow STAR and SID procedures but that would be a time consuming process. Well we as simmers always expect to see the most realistic traffic.

George
