I Finally Got FS2004! Need Advice

Tue Dec 28, 2004 6:53 am

Hi there,

Today I finally was able to purchase FS04 ( I had to get a better PC first), and I also got a joystick. I really wanted a yoke ++, but they are expensive!

This is my very first go at this.

So I got it loaded and started it up for the very first time, did the introductory flight with Ron, cool!

OK, now I have all the gear and want to start from scratch taking the lessons. I am having a few problems that I was hoping you experts could explain to me.

1) on my screen/window the instrument panel take up most of the space, like 3/4, there is just a skinny little strip on top to look out of the window, is that how it is supposed to be?

2) I have a 23" widescreen monitor with res 1920x1200 and my choice is either full screen or a tiny window? Is there a way to size it any way I want, or do I have to alter my resolution?

1) you have 2 views ,cockpit view (good for working the instruments) and a virtual cockpit view (more realistic).
In the cockpit view mode (where you usually will be) the best is to set your zoom factor (controls: +,-) at 0.75 so you have a wider view (most realistic however is 0.63).
You can set this as default if you change something in the fs9.CFG file.
I'll have a look at what parameter you exactly have to set to come to the best view and inform you as soon as I know.
Also to have a better overview you could press [ENTER]+[SHIFT] once and your seat will go up , down= [BACKSPACE]+[SHIFT].

2)Best to set your full screen mode (in dispay setup menu) to off if you want to determine your own screensize (taskbars will show and you can blow it up and shrink it as much as you desire).
I on the other hand always put full screen size.
In your case I would take the 1600x1200x32 resolution to have the sharpest picture.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your help. I'll work more on this tomorrow and do as you say. Also, it is clear that this is a big world to get into, and I clearly have much to learn. (seat up and down!!!)
