PSS777 Vnav Mode - Does It Work?

Mon Jan 10, 2005 2:41 pm

I can get VNAV to climb the PSS777 to its target altitude even if it does do it somewhat aggressively ( eg - climb rates of 6100fpm). That's fine but it will not engage VNAV once you get to the T/D point for the descent. This works beautifully with PMDG's 737NG but has anyone managed to get it to work with the PSS range? I know that I can select speed and VS for the descent myself and adjust both to get the green arc at 3000ft at 10Nm from touchdown but I would rather use the more precise VNAV. Any help gratefully received as I rather like the 777.

I'm flying the PSS777 right now, and the VNAV seems to work OK. It didn't calculate top-of-climb at all (maybe it didn't have time due to the 7000fpm climb to FL36!), but it did show a top-of-descent point. I set 5,000ft in the MCP a few minutes before T/D, and I'm descending into SFO as we speak. The only problem is that I have to use lots of speedbrake.

I can't think of anything that's different from the PMDG FMC.

In your case, does the FMC calculate a top-of-decent point at all?

Yes it does but I have discovered that my mistake was to use a MelJet with a PSS panel grafted on. You get the FMC but no descent VNAV. With the PSS original flying a QF 744 it worked fine in the descent using VNAV until I got below 10,000 and then it wanted to climb at 3000fpm for no apparent reason and speed up as well. Switched to manual approach and it worked fine below 10,000 but the gear, spoilers and flaps disappeared in the replay as usual. Pity.

Yeh there is a few problems with the PSS 777. One being that it was created for FS2000. The climb rater does seem a little silly. Let me tell you that it could be your CFG file, but also the climb rater is not that much off of the real thing  Big grin
