Runways In Use At LHR

Sun Mar 27, 2005 9:09 pm

Hi All,

Does anyone know of a website that can tell me which runways are currently in use at LHR? I appreciate the swapping over at 1500 hours of the 27's etc, but I would like to be able to look up which runways are currently in use for arrivals/departures, ie. the 9's or the 27's, and then use this info with this site ...

http://www.londonaviation.co.uk/runways.htm

to calculate the appropriate runways. Sorry if this sounds confusing!

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,
Ian.

Thanks for plugging my site!  Wink

The 09's are currently in use at LHR. If you can read Taf's and Metars, take a look at this site http://www.tmdg.co.uk/cgi-bin/auth/afinfo?icao=EGLL.

If not, sign upto the LHR Yahoo group, every morning there is a post to tell the group which runway's are in use.

Hope this helps.

Ok, here is one of the latest METAR's from LHR...

EGLL 271950Z 34003KT 9999 BKN020 09/07 Q1009 TEMPO BKN014

With winds 340deg @ 3knts, does this suggest that the 27's will be in use at present? Is there any easier way to get runway information, or is this the best way of doing it?

Cheers,
Ian

27's in use, yep, Unless they feel they want to keep peoples clearances the same or they will remain on the 09's.

Thanks Dave Big grin

That is the best way unfortunatly. As I said before, join the LHR Yahh group, you get lots of upto date information on runways / movements ect.

Okay, my application hasn't been processed yet, so I am still left pondering which runways will be in use. I am planning a trip to LHR tomorrow (29th) and it would be preferable if the 27's were in use. Would it be possible for someone in the LHR area to post which runways are in use in the morning to help aid my decision?

At present the winds look Northerly/ North easterly, which still means the 27's could be in use due to noise preferences (I believe they will use the 27's even with a tailwind factor of less than 5knts).

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian,

I live directly under the inbound flight path when they are using the 27's... I will post a message on here in the morning around 7am and let you know what runways they are using.

If its the 27's they'll be landing on 27L until 3pm, and 27R thereafter.

Adding to this.....

The winds are currently Easterly which would indicate 09L/09R being in use, but winds are very light at the moment which is why the 27's are in use.

However this could change at any time during the day, so don't be surprised if you arrive at LHR to find them on the 09s.

Sounds to me that the 27's are the "calm wind runways" in the facility directives.

Yes, if the tail wind component is no greater than 5 knots they tend to use the 27s in preference of the 09s.

Hey Guys,

Just got back, and unfortunately the 09's were in use for all the time I was there, but I was expecting that anyway.

Still had a great time though.

Cheers,
Ian.

Out of curiosity, I want to know why there is a swapping of the 27's at 1500 hrs?

I wonder how much property goes for in Myrtle Av. Could convert a house into a B&B for spotters.  Wink

Just incase anyone is thinking the link to the runway operations page is wrong, I have just updated the site. New link is here:
