Repaint Me Own Plane!

Mon Mar 28, 2005 12:12 am

Hello,

I have seen templates of planes on websites where you can save them ect.So I have, And I have my own livery, but want to know how to paint them to look proper, Someone has showed me a livery they designed and it looked great, but I haven't been able to ask them what they used how they did it ect, SO I'm asking, what can I use? I have paint, ect, but none of this fancy stuff, and don't really want to buy something, so what do you lot use?

Any pic's to show us all too ?

cya

For a proper repaint, you need a programme like paint shop pro or photo shop pro...I think.

Plus it will probably take a whole lot of patience to do it...  Wink  Wink

I know that I will not try to do it, as I lack the patience....!!!

I'm a painter, not a texture artist but i've got some stuff on Avsim. Look up Amy Gardner in the library search to see what kind of stuff I can do.

Need any help, just ask!

Maybe I'm not thinking of something, but what's the difference between the two?  Confused

I once tried modifying a bmp in photoshop, I was trying to put my face on the tail section of an A320. After I re-saved the bmp, FS9 would crash when I loaded the aircraft.

Any ideas what caused this?

Was I doing it the wrong way?

Did you add it to the aircraft.cfg?

You probably saved it as a .bmp with Adobe Photoshop, am I right? The texture then needs to be converted with a special software (I recommend DXTBmp, and it's free!), or FS will crash when trying to load it.

1. download DXTBmp (google it)
2. If you want a really nice professional looking repaint get PSP or CS2.If you dont have it/can afford it/to honest to try to get a copy use MS paint
3. Open the aircraft default textures in DXTBmp
4. click on "send to editor" (its somewhere under the top menu)
5. edit
6. save it
7. In DXTBmp click on "reload after edit"
8. Save it as a DXT3
9. Do some changes needed in aircraft.cfg you usually do when adding a new repaint
10. open flight sim,enjoy

These are really basic instructions-if you want a more detailed set just give me an email.

NICE SCENERY!!!!!!!!! Wink

To make the textures appear, you have to use DXTbmp or Imagetool to convert them to something that I forget. Can someone please elaborate more on this?

You have to take ur edited textures and save them as "DXT3". Also on the left-where it says "mipmaps",uncheck everything over there. You dont need mipmaps in fs2004. The reason is is the alpha channels (reflective textures). they are included in the FS texture files to make ur planes well, shine. They are not default bitmap formats (texutres are 24bit,default are 16bit). Therefore you need to save them through DXTBmp unless you want a completley grey aircraft.

Completely unnecessary. Simply save your textures with adobe photoshop as 32 bit bitmap. You can convert them to make them smaller file sizes but it's not necessary and i find it's rather a pain.
