New Computer And FS

Thu Apr 07, 2005 11:04 am

Hey all,

I am starting to look for a new computer. My computers as of right now have good p4 processors but lack in the graphics card etc department, so they have been mediocre with flight sim. What are the specs of a computer that would perform really well with FS2004? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Justin

If you want something that's compatible with your current P4 and motherboard setup i'd suggest a Radeon 9800 series with 128mb of ram (which would be enough) or 256 if you want to be extravagent.

If you're looking for a new system altogether, try an Athlon 64 with PCI-E Radeon X800 card. This, however, will require the purchase of Dual Channel ram which would make the total bill quite high.

My setup is:

Athlon XP 2700+

Radeon 9700 pro 128mb

1280mb pc2700 system ram

I get good FPS except for around very densely populatewd areas such as London Heathrow.
A340-300 - slow, but awesome!

Pentium 4's run more pleasantly with nVidia cards, but then again its and nVidia card. The only "good" (I use the term loosley) nVidia card would be the MX5200 series.

Frankly I'd just chuck the Pentium 4 and go for an Athlon processor and a Radeon 9800.

And be sure to load up on RAM, specifically 1 gig. RAM and smooth performance go together like strawberries and cream.
Holy sh*ts and burritos.
