PPL

Mon May 16, 2005 10:24 pm

Hi guys. I took a few flying lessons in Florida on holiday a couple of years ago. I am looking to do my PPL now in the UK. I live in the North West and have been to see Chester and Liverpool flying schools and also MSF based out of Manchester International. Has anybody done any training with these schools or has any preference? Obviously it would be great to train out of a large international like MAN, but with that comes the increased cost.

I'm currently training for my PPL in the Midlands, so I can't comment on flying schools further north. However I would recommend you actually choose a quieter place than MAN to do your PPL! You will be subject to a lot of restrictions and as such the training would be longer and more expensive (i.e. flying circuits to fit in with airliners...). Also the landing fees are probably very expensive there. How much do MSF charge per hour including landing fees? Where I train it is £88 per hour with no landing fees, and it isn't very busy so we can do circuits, touch and gos etc whenever we like.

Thanks, think its a lot more than you pay, about £120 with no landing fees!

Wen to look at Chester School of Flying in Hawarden and it is much cheaper. Gonna have another look around and hopefully can start soon. thanks for your reply

It really depends on how much lessons you need and how experianced you are. The minimum amount of lessions that you need to get a PPL is 45 Hours. However, This is a minimum. Most people are not ready to take the Final tests (I think that there are over 20), untill they have done atleast 55 hours or more. Especially if you space the lessons out (eg. One every 2 weeks).

Price- Lets just say that you need 60 lessions before you do the Tests and the Lessons are £120 per hour. 60@120 each (60x120)= £7,200. And thats before you do the Tests. So, It is kind of expensive.

You are 13 right?...If so, Then you are not too young. I will be starting In July, when I reach 15.
13/14/15 is actually one of the best ages to start at. So, if you are intrested...Go for it.
