Heat Shimmer Help?

Fri Jul 08, 2005 12:02 am

I recently downloaded an effect to add a heat shimmer or glaze to the engine exhaust. I was only able to get the effect to work on one side or the other on the aircraft. That and the resulting "shimmer" did not look like anything more than a light smoke effect. Has anyone had any better luck with getting a heat glaze off of the engines? I know that the problem could be my video card as it is the standard one that came with the Dell I bought. Any help would b e appreciated. Thank you -Dan

Well, with the graphics FS has, I doubt anything too realistic can be achieved.

Also when asking stuff like this, also tell us what are your computers full specs, and where you got that add-on from. I might be able to elaborate some more if you were more specific.

Cheers  wave

Sorry about the delay. I have a 2.66 ghz processor 1 gig of ram and the video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420.0. The program i downloaded was "ENGINE EXHAUST SYSTEM By Martyn Becker, Version 2 June 2005. for Flight Simulators 2004 and 2002. And this was downloaded from AVSIM. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. -Dan

Ahh,

I think it's your Graphics card. The MX is an older card.

I have a NvIdia GeForce FX5200 and that is getting old but was practically new 1 year ago when i got the PC.

Thanks

I was afraid of somehting like that. The pc is a couple of years old now. Hmm I wonder what the wife will think if I told her I need a new card? Probably that I spend enough time on it as it is.  Sad Well thanks for the reply -Dan

Well, no need to worry. You can easily pickup a better card for $40. Infact, i think that's all mine cost.

Thanks

I downloaded that heat shimmer as well. I've got a decent machine with a good graphics card - and it wasn't that great. Not so much your machine, but rather the effect I think is the problem.
