Google Maps Aircraft On Approach/takeoff 1

Tue Jul 12, 2005 3:57 am

What are all these old aircraft doing sitting here in MSO?

Check this out the black dot - Is this a military aircraft taking off?

Just thought the aircarft shadow on the water was kind on cool. What type of aircraft is it?

I can't answer the question about Missoula, but I'd bet they're fire fighting planes from the Forest Service.

I think the black dot is a shadow of a the white plane in the picture. Looks like a twin engine prop.

The Tokyo shots are cool! I'm gonna' venture that's a 777 on final for
RWY 16L at (is that Narita?) the airport.

How'd I do?

It looks as though the plane has a FX purple tail, but there doesn't appear to be a tail engine, and the shape doesn't look like a DC-10 or MD-11. If I would have to venture a guess, I would say it is an ANA 777.

It does look like the aircraft has the traditional Japanese identifier on top of it's port wing. ANA sounds like a good venture to me!

I did try to save the picture so I could open it PhotoShop and zoom in closer but Google wouldn't let me.

If you're referring to the "black" airplane, taking off, that's just the shadow. If you look just to the right, you can see the actual white airplane, which looks like a Dash 8 to me. Just a guess though.

And as far as the NRT shot goes, I'd say it's a T7 as well, but hard to make out the airline.

Use "ctrl" and "prtscrn", make a screeshot and paste it into MSPaint or Photoshop, that's what I did. Big grin

The black airplane is the shadow of a Horizon Dash-8 Q200, to be more specific  .

The red line the plane is about to pass over looks like the approach lighting for the crosswind runway at Haneda Airport.

Is there a Concorde on display at JFK? If not does the presence of this (what's appears to be the Concorde) aircraft help date this satellite image that Google is using for Google Maps (and Google Earth)?
