Please Help Us Slow Computer Users!

Tue Aug 16, 2005 9:36 am

I am one of them, yes one of those simmers who makes a perfect flight from CLE-ATL on a 767. Flight goes perfectly. Until the dreaded final approach. I dont screw up or anything. The comuter starts playing about one frame about every five seconds. One second ur above the runway, the next frame you're nosediving into the runway. WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP OUR FRAME RATES??????!!!!!!!!!

Any help is majorly appreciated!~!~!~

In ascending order:

1. Defrag your hard drive
2. Disable applications runing in the background.
3. Disable non esential services (FS Auto Start a good tool).
4. Get more RAM
5. Get a faster graphics card. DX9 compatible.
6. Get a new computer - Make sure its graphics card can render DX9 specification effects.

- That's about it... Ohh! Also, set FS detail slides to the left.

Here is a MAJOR one - do not enable ai traffic at airports. If one thing is going to majorly slow performance on the ground - it is that.

Do what has been said above, but you can also try these:

FS Performance Speed Up Programs:

Video card drivers for sure, usually Beta drivers are better than the OEM drivers ,depending on the video card. What are your system specs?

Since you have not stated your computer specs, I'm assuming you have no DX9 compliant card. Each of these cards may be a really nice improvement, only if the other 2 very important components in your PC are good as well. These are RAM and CPU. You may have the latest GeForce 7800 but only 128MB or RAM and a 1GHz CPU, and still get slugglish performance. So, counting on that you have at least 512MB of RAM and a fast 2GHz+ CPU.. chek these in ascending order:

1. $50+, a good GeForce 5200FX with at least 128MB of RAM can give you a nice relief.

2. $120+ may get you a nice Radeon 9600XT which will be better than the 5200.

3. $170+ and you may get a very nice GeForce 6600GT with 128MB. That's a very nice card.

4. $200 and up, its up to you. If you want more expensive cards, let us know here.

-Ragu.

PS: DirectX 9 effects include those very nice water reflections effects found in FS9 and many other rather new games. If you card does not support DX9 specs, it will still work with DirectX 9c installed in your PC, but will not render these nice effects.

Use different O/s??

Have used Fs2004 on both 98se and XP and find that my 98se has a bad time on long-distance flights (ga is ok for me). It just feels like Fs9 was made for XP & although my framerates are never higher, they just keep up much better over time/distance.

I just wish I didn't like 98se so much!
