Pmdg 747 Vs Level-D 767

Wed Aug 31, 2005 1:43 am

This is a follow on from my other post: Best Payware Aircraft.... (by B742 Aug 29 2005 in Aviation Hobby)

I need to know which aircraft to purchase, which is better all-round, PMDG 747-400 or Level-D 767?

i have both.I prefer the LD767 but i think its a question of taste.I like the sound and look of the LD.I prefer the PMDG 737 to the PMDG747. Because the PMDG737 has more texture giving it a real look.
your pilots today on this 747 flight are captain oliver hardy and assisting will be FO stan laurel.Have a safe flight

PMDG 747 is a frameslicker...
You need a high end machine to benefit the most!

Level-D is exellent!

Hello,
I think that it's really hard to compare all of those Payware aircraft. If you can afford it buy them both. And add the PMDG 737NG for the short haul flights.

I agree that Level-D is great but I think that PMDG did a great job with the 747. I have a 3 years old PC and it's still pretty acceptable to fly it even from the Virtual cockpit.

The PMDG was very disappointing.. nothing like the 737  Sad

Go for the 767, now that IS worth the money!

Well as others said before, it depends from wat "machine" you have, I have a
Pentium 4 3,4Ghz. 1GB Ram, 250Gb hard disk, and a ATI X800Pro 256mb.
I really love the PMDG 747, the only thing is, that i have tofind some time to read the manual.

I have the PMDG 737 747 and Level D 767. I haven't put much time in the 767 simply because the labels on the panel and the overhead are hard to read-and I have good eyesight! On the PMDG it's clear and easy to read, which is why I go with those.
Maybe if I spent more time on the 767 to memorize it all, I would like it better.
One other thing...I got active camera now, and the Level D doesn't have a virtual cabin, while PMDG does (even on the 1900), so on long flights when I get bored I go back in the cabin. I can't do that on Level D, unless I just want to look at the engine and wing.

My brother however, swears by the Level D.

On the other hand, the PMDG 744 has no wing views whatsoever, which has caused some disappointment, unless you want to buy DBS Walk and Follow and change the spot view with it. Personally I think wing views are more important than a virtual cabin dragging down the frame rates.

Yep!

I have a PIV 2.4Ghz, 1Gig RAM and an authentic ATI X800XT platinum edition with 256MB on board, still it manages to drop around 50% in frames compared to Level-D and PSS and even PMDG 737.

It's really strange and all patches or solutions from PMDG are off course used.
Altogether the 747 is really some nice work!
I wish I could use it...Because I' am capable of doing it!
Maybe upgrading my CPU will be the solution, but a costly one!

Anyway a PSS-POSKY merge A343X flight from Zürich to Hong-kong is on schedule for me for tonight! Now that's a frame-thrower!

I am thinking about getting Level-D 767. Its only the 767-300ER right?
I was wondering how the Overhead panel is. I know that the 767/757 have some complicated overheads nothing like the 737. But the 767 is just the plane I am missing in my fleet. I have PMDG 737-700 for Short to Medium Haul. I have PSS Dash-8-300 for short haul. I have Ready For Pushback 747-200 for Long Haul and Cargo. Cap Sim 727-200 For Cargo. Flight one 411 for short haul and 135 freight. and also DC-9-31 Pro for short to Medium haul. I am also planning on getting PSS 777 when it comes out from Just Flight in December. But the type of plane the 767 is perfect. Good for MIA-JFK or MCI-LGW. MIA-BOG.
I read the avsim review. How is it and how complicated. How are the 2D panels and the Pedestal and Overhead. Also is the FMC simular to PMDG 737 FMC I dont want to have to learn a complety new system.  Smile

Level-D is the full Boeing style FMC and very good!
little difference with the 737 PMDG.

I have both the Level-D 767 and PMDG 744 and have to say that I enjoy the Level-D more. Don't get me wrong though, both planes are great and truly expand the flightsim experience, but I personally seem to have more fun and get a bigger thrill with the Level-D.

One thing that I like on the PMDG over the Level-D is the VC. It has more features and goodies than the Level-D. The PMDG does seem to put a strain on my system so framerates are not as good as the Level-D. Of course too, the Level-D has a much lower price ($39.95) than the PMDG's $54.95 price tag. Of course, if you don't want to spend any money on a 767 or 747...head on over to Project OpenSky, but I think you will be a lot more satisfied with the Level-D and PMDG over POSKY freeware planes.

Both are easy to use once you get familiar with them. These two aircraft can be quite complex, but I found easy to learn. It is highly recommended that new users should read the manual...particularly the section on the FMCs. I frequent the Level-D discussion board a lot and see many posters complain of problems or challenges that are easily resolved by reading the manual. Yeah the Level-D manual is 175 pages in PDF format...but it is a good resource if you are just starting out.

On a side note, Level-D announced the other day that a 757 is in the works after much speculation.

Another significant difference is that the Level-D has something of a virtual FO. You can have the FO handle the landing gear and flaps. It also has flight attendants that complain when it gets too hot. Both the Level D and the 744 have ground crew that pushes you back and allows you to set how far back to turn it and what angle to turn it.

Last night I was doing a flight from Mumbai to Dubai and lost an engine somehow (lost oil pressure) as I approached the Arabian peninsula. I diverted it to Muscat, using the FMC. Once I activated the FMC diversion, there was an announcement "ladies and genltlemen, this is the captain. We have had a mechanical problem and are diverting to an alternate destination. The crew will advise you as we have more information."

If you like that kind of stuff, the Level-D has it where the PMDG doesn't.

I still prefer the 744 because of all the memory-eating eye candy, and the overhead and gauges are easier to read.

The LD 767 panel is brilliant, I think you have more options flying the 76 if your into real world flying, from US domestic to international fights, its a versatile aircraft.
Don't forget they are doing a 757 addon, I can't wait for that  hyper
