What Is The Use Of The .AIR File

I've been wondering,exactly what is the use of the .air file? what exactly does it control?

It controls how the aircraft performs in FS. It's kind of the like the aircraft's pilot if you know what I mean.

Only partially true.
It indeed controls all flying characteristics (power/ drag/brakepower/....) of the plane but all values in the aircraft.cfg file supersede those in the air.ed file.
