Announcing The New West Express Airways

Thu Dec 01, 2005 2:09 pm

Hello!

I'm pleased to announce that West Express is restructuring in an effort to bring more simplicity and refinement to the airline. Our preliminary plan is drawn out below. After several months of trying to make the old structure work, I came to the realization that I simply don't have time with college. So, instead of just walking away, I thought it would be better to simply redesign the airline to work around my schedule. We will be offering a lot of automated services that will allow the staff to plan more fun events instead of counting hours. With that, here is the new plan:

2006 Q1
Begin Operations

Hubs
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX/KLAX)

Fleet
Embraer 170 (GE)
Boeing 737-700 (CFM)
Boeing 737-800 (CFM)
Boeing 757-200 (PW)

Service

Our intial operations, as noted in the previous release, will be based in Los Angeles (also the location of our corporate headquarters).

We are also in primary planning stages of a regional division using Bombardier Q200s and CRJ-700s. More information will be released when it is available. Along with this would come the opening of a focus city (possibly to be developed into a full hub) in Seattle, Denver, or St. Louis. Service from this focus city would be in addition to added regional service from Los Angeles.

We have reached a deal for in-flight entertainment systems featuring XM Satellite Radio and DirecTV to be installed in our entire domestic fleet. These will feature individual AVOD devices for each passenger, with continuous live feed across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Feature films will also be available.

Our aircraft will be equipped with a First Class section featuring 41" pitch all-leather seats. Service will include complementary beverages and meals during standard meal times and/or on flights greater than 1.5 hours. We will also have an Economy Class section featuring 33" pitch all-leather seats, with complementary non-alcoholic beverages and a snack. A full meal will be offered on flights greater than 2 hours during meal times only.

ExpressMiles

Along with the rebranding of the airline, we will be revamping our frequent flier program, ExpressMiles. Pilots will be able to earn ExpressPoints for each mile they fly for West Express or IAVA partners. Special promotions will also apply that will award extra ExpressPoints. These points may then be redeemed for ExpressRewards, including airline-related priveledges. We are preparing to enter negotiations for other flight simulator rewards, such as product discounts.

That's all for now! If you'd like to stay updated, please visit our website, http://www.westexpressairways.com, and sign up for the mailing list!

And of course, a restructuring wouldn't be complete without a fresh new image. We've decided to completely revamp the airline, with a new logo, a new livery, and a new website. Comments and thoughts appreciated! Welcome to the new West Express!

That is one damn nice looking livery. However, your link is not working quite right, here's a better one: www.westexpressairways.com

Great looking VA!

Quoting FriendlySkies (Thread starter):
Embraer 170 (GE)...CRJ-700s.

Why both? They both fall under the same catagory of 70ish seat RJs, I would choose one or the other!

Instead of Q200s and CRJ-700s and E170s maybe you could get CRJ-200s and CRJ-700s, plenty of comonality and much more flexibility in terms of crew. Savings made in maintainance too.

Of course if West Expess is one of those VAs that don't care two s**ts about realism, then CRJ-700 and E170 would make an interesting combination.

We are putting 60 seats in the CRJ-700 with a first class section and 33" pitch coach, and 70 in the E170. The Dash 8 is for routes that are too low-yield for the -700 (or airports a CRJ can't operate at). Trust me, I thought the same thing at first.  Wink

I abhor the CRJ-200 and ERJ-145, so I don't plan on ever using those.

Man, I gotta hand it to you.

That is by far, one of the most professional VAs I've ever seen! Incredible livery, excellent planes, the whole works. I seriously congratulate you guys for putting up such an awesome VA for the world to see, and I wish you much great luck in getting tons of pilots!

That's really too bad, because everyone and their Grandmother's VA uses some CRJ product. I can't tell you how many VA's I've seen with "Connection" or "Express" titles that are put on a Canadair product. It's as boring as hell.

If I were you, even if you hate the ERJ-145, I'd recommend replacing the CRJ-700's with them. Dreamwings has an acceptable freeware model while FeelThere have theirs down to pat like the real one.

Either that or just do away with the entire Express concept all together. It's been done by every other virtual airline in every other part of the world. It just seems crappy by now.

Well, most airlines in the world do it that way, unfortunately, but I do agree with you. It's mainly redundant.

Well, it's hard to be realistic if I serve smaller cities near LAX with ERJ-170s, and I have a personal affection for the CRJ-700...I know everyone's done it, but....well it's hard to balance new and exciting with realism and not do something redundant. Just got to accept certain things in this "biz" lol. I do agree with you though, and I don't plan to massively expand this regional idea, I will most likely only keep the Q200 and CR7 (with 60 seats).

Before I had 2 regionals on each side of the country, using completely different fleets...it was a mess. I'm going for simplicity this time, thus I only used the aircraft I felt I needed for a proper regional fleet.

Though I agree, the DW 145 series is excellent.  Wink

Hey! My VA has 12 ERJ-145s with 30 ERJs on order!  grumpy  Can't complain with the rocket ship performance!

All too true. I'm glad avonlink uses ERJs and Fokkers instead!

Yes, whatever you do don't call it 'XXXXX Express' or 'Connection' or whatever. Definitely done to death.

AvonLink's RJs are flown as mainline, just like every aircraft in the fleet up to 767s.

Is that the Dreamwings E170?

Yes, it's the Dreamwings model (I don't think there is another one, but if there was I wouldn't use it!). As for names, I was thinking something like "West Express CitiHopper" or something. I want something to differentiate between mainline and regional.

Figured as much. Are you using the default panel with it?

Very nice. I really like the realistic looking logo and livery. I've already signed up for updates and will be very interested when the web site is up and running. When you do proceed you should give definate consideration having AI flightplans and aircraft for your VA. keep up the good work. DougD

Time constraints on Scott what with college and all. WXP is currently on the backburner for the next few years. Seeing this thread at the top of the list made me think he was finally restarting everything, though.
