Wilco Publishing A380 - Any Good?

Mon Feb 20, 2006 6:24 am

It's been around for a while now, and i think it's strange that nobody's talking about it. Is it any good? the preview pics do look find indeed, as you can see yourself at:

Definitely not. First of all, the FDE is based only on the projected flight data from Airbus, not the actual one, since the Wilco A380 was released before MSN001 had its first flight.

Second, the modelling is a bit sloppy. Have a look at the wing and how the slats look like they're about to fall off. Here's the shot:

http://www.wilcopub.com/wilcopub_images/images_a380/21_g.jpg

Third, something that pissed me off for a long time: the gears on the Wilco and other A380s don't tilt right!!! They don't tilt with the rear side of the truck like this:

http://www.wilcopub.com/wilcopub_images/images_a380/23_g.jpg

And here's how the gear tilt in real life:

And if you have another look at the model, either the repaints have far too much alpha or they made a poor dynamic shine. So I personally don't recommend the Wilco A380.

I read a review (in Computer Pilot, I think) when it was released and they weren't all that enthusiastic about it.

Wilco hasn't come up with a good FS addon in a long time. The 380 just continues that tradition.

The Level-D 767 is originally distributed by Flight1 Software (which has an excellent customer support, especially if you get a guy named Jeff to respond to your inquiries  Smile). While I know Wilco also distributes the LDS 767, it's most likely with a licence from Flight1, so you can't count the 767 as a Wilco release, as it is actually a Flight1 release.  Wink

Wilco originally distributed the 767 PIC for FS2000/2002, which was an amazing product. But they do not distribute the Level-D 767 (essentially the 767PIC upgraded for FS2004), which is distributed by Flight 1 (although it's made by Level-D). Confused yet?  Smile

Bingo.  Wink

Feelthere is the developer, whereas WILCO is the publisher in that case. Just Flight have also just released a boxed version of the FT737 as well.....  Wink Big grin

It is. Wilco has as much to do with it as Flight1 has to do with the Level-D 767.

I own it... its crap! It is the worst money I have ever spent! It is like burning your money. That is how much I got out of this add-on. The aircraft looks like something from fs2000 and the panel is full of default gauges and it is not airbus alike at all!

Edit: oops! sorry! I thought of Abacus A380 which is way worse than Wilco A380. Anyway, the Wilco A380 doesn't look too good either.

The PSS Aircraft, which are published through Justflight, are very poor when it comes to the visual model. However, they do have kickass panels, which make them worth buying and merging.

Once I have the chance, I get the PSS buses just for the panels. However, if you want one of the official repaints from PSS, you have to buy them. They cost £5.00 each if I'm not mistaken. At least at Level-D you get the official repaints for free.

I have a logitech freedom 2.4 cordless joystick. It actually lasts very long on 3 AA batteries, but it can be annoying sometimes, because if you dont move the joystick for a few minutes and you then click a button or move the joystick, it has to connect to the dock again which can take a couple of seconds.

Thanks! Do you know if these things reduce the game's performance in any way?
