Wingviews, A Must!

Fri Feb 24, 2006 12:04 am

It seems to me that a lot of Payware aircraft now days are not including wingviews. I was sooo disappointed when I spend $50 for the PMDG 744 because it has amazing wings, great flex and response to turbulence's but no wingview! PMDG said the they had to choose between an super detailed VC or wingviews and since its for flying, they went with the VC. PSS has also not included wingviews in its A340/330 software. Does the PSS B777s have wingview?

I greatly enjoy re-playing my landings and viewing them from the wingview, I kind of critique the touchdown as if I was a passenger, LOL! I gotta give respect to IFDG, Opensky and most free-ware developers for including and improving wingviews on most of there new arrivals.

I guess you need to purchase WALK and FOLLOW then 100% of all your planes will now have a wing view even if its VC only.

Bad thing that sucks about the replay which I always do, they turn off AI traffic in the replay so I never get to see the other planes on the taxiway waiting for take off or the planes at terminal from a wing view

I just got the PSS 777...No cabin or wing views, which I'm dissapointed about.

Here's a surprising freebie that I found. The Jet City Aircraft (JCA) Boeing 717 is a very good, detailed exterior model that does include wings, but no cabin (like the Level D 767). It comes with a panel that you will want to replace, but it only took me like 5 minutes to replace it with the "Ultimate Boeing Panel" and both are found on www.avsim.com for free. The JCA comes with about 5-6 repaints already installed, and I quickly found the one I wanted...Hawaiian Air.

Buy active camera, use virtual cabin, take a seat. I don't care much for wing views from the 2D cockpit myself.

I have AC, but if the wingview is not modeled you can't see it. Does the new version of AC have the same capabilities as Walk and Follow?

With walk and follow, you can do a wing view on every plane made, no matter if its not modeled it starts with the spot aircraft style, but just move inside the fuselage to see the wing from inside and can move to under the engine and do cool spots. I think AC cost more and too clumsy

What panel do you use on it now? I use the "Ultimate Boeing" but I must admit, I've only done one flight with it as I've only had the model for a few days.

How do you replay your landing?! I have been trying to do it but it seems to be slow on my computer or it just replays a part of it and then cuts back to my parked aircraft....very annoying

If your plane has the normal panel AND the vc, just configure the wingview to one of the back views for the normal panel.

For example:

[VIEWS]
VIEW_LEFT_WINDOWS=40
VIEW_LEFT_ZOOM=0.600
VIEW_LEFT_EYE=0, .70, -13
VIEW_LEFT_DIR=0.000, 0.000, 270.000

and

[Fixed Window40]
file=left_aft.BMP (this is the name of the bitmap picture of the window)
position=7
visible=0
ident=40
render_3d_window=1
window_size= 1.000, 1.000
window_pos= 0.000, 0.000

get you

Do you know any good freeware long-range Airbus for FS2002 that has wingviews? I have POSKY's 330 but it doesn't have wingviews. I can find a lot of Boeing but not so much Airbus...

Hi there,

Thought that I might have some information that might help you all:

You can often download "wing views" from websites like avsim.com. Most tend to be a bitmap image of a window with a wing, and when you look to the side using your hat-button on your joystick or the numpad buttons you see the wing, great right?

Well no, not entirely, see the bitmap image is static and wont show the aircraft model's wing. What you can do though is download a short extract of text from sites like avsim.com, they make it such that a certain combinations of keys in the numpad move the eyepoint to a point midway back on the fuselage looking to the left (or right) and therefore show the actual wing of the model.

This means you can see the wing flex, flaps, leading edge flaps, spoilers, lights everything (even the landing gear if set up correctly)

I made a couple of my own for some of the aircraft I fly. I'll share them here:

All you do if copy and paste those bits of text and put them into your panel.cfg file for the aircraft. Then while in cockit view press num 5+ one of the following:
num 1, 4, 7, 3, 6, 9.

Hope you all like them  Smile

(oh and if you'd like to add a bitmap for the window for each view its possible - but i don't fully understand how to do that)

Hey everyone, I love using the wing views, any way to view the winglights on a few? Some don't include them so I tend not to do night flights due to that reason.
Thanks.

Considering that they are a payware comp that relased that for Free, they gave a very good product for free. They diddnt have to do it and could have made it part of their douglas twin's line. Which I own all of now.  biggrin

Hi KLM672, if the exterior model of the plane has wing lights on it then they should appear with the wing-views I posted above. (I think thats what you meant with you post right?)

Like the PMDG 737, I fly it often from LGW-FUE as its a route I fly each year, and those wing views make the wing lights look great at 5am departing LGW!

Bombardier
Canadair Regional Jet / CRJ 600 - 200 does not have lights when you view it from the wing view yet they are ones on the outside. Any help. If you could get the codes for that, maybe I am using the wrong one?

Another cool thing about walk and follow is that you can see can see your shadow in the replay from the wingview. PMDG's 747 is incredible with wingview, it's so real...

Ermm, I dunno how to fix that, the wing views I posted above show the exterior model (they basically change the view point when you press the relevent key...kinda like active camera only quicker) so i can't understand why you cant see the wing lights, it could just be that on the particular plane that you're flying the wing lights are simply obscured from view by the wings thenselves.

You could try modefying your wing view by raising the height of the view point so as to make the wing lights visible. To do this just change the numbers in the wing view text in your panel.cfg. Experiment with diferent numbers and see which one works best.

Hope that helps!

I only have the demo version but it seems very hard to control the view. The walk component is suppose to be used for wingviews right? Often during landing the view dips as soon as the gear makes contact, so the wingview becomes a gear bay view.

Very interesting indeed. Go to this folder: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Dbs

Open this file: DBS.WalkAndFollow.ini

change IgnorePOV=0 to IgnorePOV=1

I have this program and it works perfectly.

What email are you using? I had this problem too and I eventually gave up on it. But then one day I had Outlook take over for my email (it downloads the emails from the same gmail account) and I decided to try it agina. Sure enough it worked. A lot of people were complaining of this issue. Somehow it seems that the code changes somewhat and becomes a useless string of numbers. Try having outlook take over your email account and then copy and paste the code in from outlook. it worked for me. hope this helps!

Very interesting indeed. Go to this folder: C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9Dbs

Open this file: DBS.WalkAndFollow.ini

change IgnorePOV=0 to IgnorePOV=1

I have this program and it works perfectly.
