Inflight200 Models--They're Amazing!

Sun Mar 26, 2006 5:17 am

While I was at LHR spotting today, I stopped in at Collectors Aircraft Models showroom at the Sheraton Skyline hotel just to look around at their wonderful selection of models.

I saw a bunch of the new Inflight200 range of metal models (1:200); the ones on display were the following:
*Boeing 747-121 N7470 First Flight (with customer logos)
*Boeing 747-121 N7470 "City of Everett"
*Boeing 747-133 Air Canada delivery colours
*Boeing 747-233 Air Canada delivery colours
*Boeing 747-121 Eastern Airlines
*Boeing 747-422 United Airlines (grey colours)

Also available now (if not already sold out) are the Delta and Pan Am 747s.

I have pre-ordered the upcoming TWA twin stripes 747-131 with bold titles. I can hardly wait to get that one! I've been searching for years for a model of this particular plane ever since I took my only trip on a 747--a TWA 747 with red twin stripes.

The Inflight200 models are simply amazing! They're so true to real life and are so detailed, it's like having a 1:200 version of the real thing on your shelf. The engine blades spin, and the tyres are rubber (and the gear is finely tooled). Even the antennae and APU are built right on, not merely painted on.
Every little detail you'd see on a real 747 is present on these models.

Inflight200 also has made several Alitalia DC-8 models, and they are also working on 737 and other moulds.

The aforementioned Inflight200 TWA 747-131 in twin stripes is coming in TWO versions--the earlier outline TRANS WORLD titles and the later bold titles. The one I preordered at CAM is the bold-titles version, like the one I flew on back in 1994. I wonder when the TWA 747s are coming out??? Does anyone know?

What do you think of these models? Do you have one, or are you getting any?

Please let me know your opinions!

Herpa are plastic with 0.000001% metal  Wink while IFM are all-metal body, and they too have great detail, and rotating gear.............. Just to your Smithair know, IFM also makes many 707, DC8, and some 747.... for now that's it, A 737 is in the planning stages.

Make sure you use the 3D picture viewer, to get close with the model. Also you can spin it around to see the detail.
And then tell me you wish you could spend that much on a plane.  Wink

Hey, guys, I've had a good look at the Herpa 1:200s, too.

It's hard to tell any difference between the Herpa Premium and IF200 747s--both lines look sharp and very realistic. And the prices are pretty similar (if you convert both Euros and UK pounds to dollars).

Although Herpa Premiums are just as desirable, I can't find any that I really want (a TWA 747-131 twin stripes, for example).

Anyway, Herpa is not releasing the TWA 747 I want--but IF200 is! So guess where I'm going for my Holy Grail TWA 747?

Ever since I had my only experience on a 747 (back in 1994 on my TWA 747 trip to Spain, JFK-MAD return), I have always wanted (and searched all over for) a decent model of the TWA 747-131 in red twin stripes with bold titles (the kind I flew on in 1994).

So, I have already pre-ordered the IF200 TWA 747-131 twin stripes with bold titles--my Holy Grail!

Inflight200 has its own website ( http://www.inflight200models.com ), but unfortunately, the site is down for the next 2 weeks.

However, you can look on DAC's model database ( http://www.diecastaircraftforum.com/modeldatabase/ ) and Wings900's model database ( http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase ). However, these model databases are not exactly complete--they don't list all the IF200 models that are planned, just the ones already available or soon to be released.

Google might also have some other links (or images, if you do a Google Images search) to Inflight200 models.

Hope this helps!
