Swapping A PC!?!

Wed Apr 05, 2006 1:32 am

Not entirely sure what forum to post this in, but It's all to do with my aviation hobby of Flight Simming so here goes...

For simming I have a laptop with 3.06Ghz Pentium 4, 900MB RAM and a 128MB Graphics card.
One of my friends wants to swap my laptop for his desktop, I'd prefer a desktop for simming as you can upgrade it, here's his spec: 2.93Ghz Pentium 4, 1 Gig of RAM (upgradable to 4 Gig) and he also has a 128MB Graphics card, which I'd be able to upgrade, he'd also throw in 100 pounds which is very generous. What I want is some general advice on whether I should go ahead with it? I'm still going to think about it for a while though.

One main concern is his 2.93Ghz processor, its less than mine, will this be noticable performance wise?

Any advice at all would be very much appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like a fair swap.

Negligable, if at all. Is the 2.93 a Pentium 4 or an Athlon? Either way, with the extra RAM in the desktop, you may even be a bit faster than the laptop. The upgradability of the desktop, is a real plus.

Is he going to give you the monitor and all the extras?

I'd do the deal in a minute. I don't like simming on a laptop.

My glass is neither 1/2 empty nor 1/2 full, rather, the glass itself is twice as big as it should be.

I'd do this deal. Use the extra 100lbs to put towards a sweet video card or some more memory!

If the deal seeems fair go for it. But ditch that 128 card as soon as funds allow. Higher Ram on the video card usually means better performance with MS FS.

Take his hand off, do the deal and with the extra cash make further improvements.
